Disorder in ourselves and our relationships is a manifestation of unmet needs. The pain and distress we experience is often what brings us to therapy, as a problem to sort out but in fact, this pain response is an adaptive and survival orientated signal, telling us to pay attention. These signals are built in mechanisms communicating to us that something is out of balance; and we need to do something in order to restore our sense of balance. If we try to ignore the message or suppress it with substances or distraction, the symptoms do not disappear but but rather become amplified. Chaos and discomfort are fertile soil for change.
I adopt a compassionate and integrative approach to psychotherapy, drawing from various modalities which recognize symptoms of distress and human suffering as evidence of unmet needs and validate these in the context of the client’s experience and inner and outer world.
I work collaboratively with the client, providing a safe space to tell their story, reconnect with themselves, identify significant patterns and needs, make their own connections, make sense of their experience, find their voice and mobilize themselves toward adaptive action.
