I am a couples counsellor working in-person from my practice in Tamboerskloof.
Couples might arrive when something big has happened in the relationship, they sense a troubling distance growing between them or they are fighting non-stop and can't work out how to change. I help couples to formulate exactly what is going on and put in place new ways of speaking and listening to one another. I strive to be neutral, compassionate and honest.
Couple work can involve tricky, heated or tiring conversations. It's my job to create an environment in which these can be productive. I want to understand each person's experience clearly, so they feel understood. There are also some fundamental principles that help most couples gain clarity and find some relief - these I will share with you.
Counsellors do not diagnose or treat mental illness - we work with the problems of day-to-day living. Should more specialised care be necessary I will make a referral.
