Relationships feel complicated or heavy.
I am a Clinical Psychologist grounded in compassionate, inclusive care. My work draws from psychodynamic training while remaining tailored to each individual’s needs. Therapy is a collaborative process, shaped by your story and your pace. Always thoughtful. Always human. Therapy can be seen as a work in process. A collection of human experiences slowly and carefully weaved together. Often challenging, sometimes light-hearted, always guided by you.

I work with interpersonal and relationship difficulties, mood disorders, personality related disturbances, behavioral issues, more severe psychiatric illnesses, grief, trauma, self-harm, chronic suicidal ideation, emotional regulation, sexuality, identity and adjustment difficulties.
Like the ancient art of Kintsugi, I believe that healing is not about erasing cracks but embracing them - filling the broken pieces with resilience, self-compassion and strength. Life's challenges can leave us feeling shattered, but with the self-reflection, self-awareness and the right support, those fractures can become part of a more beautiful, empowered version of ourselves. As a Clinical Psychologist, I help individuals navigate a vast array of mental health issues and life transitions, guiding them towards growth and wholeness. Together we can turn pain into wisdom and struggles into gold.

It also offers a toolkit for maintaining healthy relationships with oneself and others.
I am a clinical psychologist working primarily with adolescents and adults in private practice. As a practitioner, my approach is, primarily, psychodynamic which explores individual unconscious processes as well as the influence of early developmental experiences on immediate quality of life. I also work from a relational position which examines our social context including interpersonal interactions. I understand that embarking on therapy can feel overwhelming and may evoke mixed feelings for many. My intention is to create a containing and collaborative space, one where the client can feel understood, recognized and secure.

I work with clients who may be struggling with depression or trauma related to their relationships or family.
If you’re a young adult trying to make sense of all the things—adulting, identity, stress, anxiety, big life questions—you’re in the right place. I offer a supportive, judgment-free space where you can unpack, explore, and grow at your own pace. As a counsellor, I blend traditional talk therapy with creative approaches like art-based counselling and guided meditation. Why? Because sometimes words aren’t enough—and that’s okay. Whether you’re a doodler, daydreamer, deep thinker or all of the above, we’ll find ways to express and explore what’s really going on beneath the surface.

I approach therapy in an integrative manner which focuses on understanding patterns of behaviour, building relationships, developing self-awareness, and taking responsibility.
Life can be challenging and complicated. Our past experiences have a way of influencing how we manage the challenges life brings and we can often find ourselves repeating patterns of behaviour, which can create even more difficulties. Therapy is a space to explore these patterns and to have an experience which is safe and challenging at the same time.

Hello and welcome to my practice. My name is Monique Botha. I am a clinical psychologist, who finds meaning in walking with humans as they navigate life. The humans who come to my practice are often carrying a great deal, even if it does not always show on the surface. Many arrive feeling overwhelmed, misunderstood, or disconnected from themselves, their bodies, or their relationships. They are not looking only for symptom relief; they are seeking understanding, safety, and a space where they can make sense of their inner word. Should you wish to start your own journey of healing, know that you don’t need to to do it alone. <3

FAQ - About Couples Therapy
Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
