I am a registered counselling psychologist in private practice. I believe that each individual has the inherent ability and resourcefulness to find solutions for the challenges that life may present. I now combine my approach to therapy with nature. More and more research has found that spending time in nature has significant mental health benefits. For example, spending time in a natural environment has been linked to a decrease in anxiety, a reduction in depression, diminishing stress, better emotion regulation, and an increase in positive emotions.

It is my fervent and sincere desire to meet people who are struggling to make sense of the current reality of their lived story. people who are dissatisfied with the problem stories that darken their lives. People who awaken to something greater and deeper within. This story runs deep within them like a set of golden footprints speaking of something alternative and exciting . This realization awakens in them the knowledge that they are not the problem story but rather true identity lies in a alternative place . Deep within this place of true identity the truth is revealed that true identity is only found in the Christ.

I have a specific interest in assessments and emotional and behavioral difficulties in children. I thoroughly enjoy the journey of exploring the child's potential, temperament, and perceptions about themselves and others. I am known as the 'heart aunty'… I aim to listen to and understand the hearts of everyone that enters my door. Psycho-educating parents and children is an essential aspect of my way of doing. Families, children, in particular, development, and the dynamics between them make me enthusiastic. I am also fascinated by temperaments, relationships, and all people. Relationships are of imperative value to me.

I want to help clients who are struggling with issues in their relationships, whether it be in a marriage or other relationship. Problems experienced in living life fully, such as depression, anxiety or trauma, can be something which may affect relationships on different levels. Because I specialize in relationships, taking care in understanding depression and anxiety and working towards alleviation as much as possible, is very important. Trauma is a very important aspect of many people's lives which I treat by emotionally helping clients to get in touch with the pain.

Are you facing overwhelming circumstances in your life and need someone to talk to? Are you a young person trying to figure out who you are, and what values you stand for? Have you experienced a traumatic or tragic event that you are struggling to deal with? Sometimes we find ourselves in situations that cause us deep pain and we need someone to help us make sense of it all. These situations can lead to mental illness and crises of faith. There is no shame in seeking help in times like these. Sometimes all we need is a safe space to figure it all out.

I believe in creating a safe, non-judgemental space where clients can openly express their thoughts. i see adolescents, adults elders and couples with any issues, working from a solution focused perspective. In our conversations you initially talk about your reason for being here. However, after that we mainly focus on change i.e. your future wishes and best hopes for yourself and then we work out how to get there. This creates much hope, direction, optimisms and emotions. My passion is to rebuild family relations and strengthening the family systems, through individual, couples and family counselling services

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

Psychologists listed in the directory are registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA). The majority of General Counsellors featured in the directory align themselves with reputable professional bodies, particularly the Association for Supportive Counsellors and Holistic Practitioners. All Registered Counsellors listed must be registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA). Social Workers listed in the directory must be registered with the South African Council for Social Service Professionals.

Providers whose professional membership or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Given that professional memberships are not a statutory requirement for general counsellors in South Africa, certain qualified professionals or organisations may choose not to maintain such memberships despite possessing the necessary qualifications. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?

Psychologists, counsellors and social workers can all provide counselling or talking therapy and have credentials and supervised, practical experience that enable them to do so in South Africa.

Psychologists have five years training in psychology, have completed an internship over 12 months, and have completed the National Examination of the Professional Board for Psychology. They must be registered with Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA). Registered Counsellors must have at least four years of study at a university or college, such as the Bachelor of Psychology and have completed the National Examination of the Professional Board for Psychology. General counsellors, such as Supportive Counsellors, Holistic Counsellors, and Wellness Counsellors, registered with the ASCHP must possess at least an NQF Level 4 qualification. Social Workers must possess a Bachelor of Social Work and must have completed an approved internship in the social service sector.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, the cost of a therapy session in South Africa could be between R600 and R1,500. If you have private insurance, your plan may cover some if not all of your sessions. You should contact your insurance provider to determine if they provide coverage for therapy sessions and to determine what, if any, requirements they might have in order for your sessions to be covered, such as a referral from your GP or medical specialist.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Therapists who are registered with the HPCSA and professional organisations such as PsySSA or the ASCHP are bound by an ethical framework that requires them to uphold a confidentiality agreement. Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship and only under specific circumstances, such as when there is the potential or known harm to the client, or as required by law, will a therapist be obligated to break the agreement. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed during the initial consultation.
