I am a Clinical Psychologist who works with people across the lifespan through a wide range of difficulties. Central to my work is an existential philosophy — The belief that therapy is not only about alleviating distress, but also about discovering meaning, embracing uncertainty, and moving toward a more authentic and fulfilling way of being.

I have been a therapist for 29yrs and have been privileged to share many patients stories of sadness, loneliness, anxiety fear and tragedy. I have witnessed courage, perseverance and the untangling of the recent past and the deeper past in order to live more healthily with themselves and in relationship to others. I believe the quality of the relationship between myself and my patients creates a safe space in which to explore both the conscious and unconscious factors that lead to the breakdown or impediments to the above relationships.

Play Therapy is a type of therapy designed to be used with children in such a way that allows them to process emotions and articulate problems to parents and adults.
Hi, My name is Jacqui. I came upon the decision of going into Social Work and Play Therapy in 2018. What guided me to this decision was the realization that I had a passion for helping people and for working with children. I think my personality is what makes me able to communicate so easily with children. I am a person who is fun, loving and caring and if a phrase could describe me it would be that “I am a child at heart”. What I offer here at Pondering Possibilities is a service that will help you and your child navigate the stressors of life, through activities focused on therapy and play. Look forward to meeting you soon.

I also offer individual counselling, as well as counselling for parents of teenagers.
My name is Mariska van der Meulen and we offer quality counselling at affordable rates. I chose the name Meraki as it really speaks to me about the supportive, non judgmental environment in which healing takes place. It is a Greek word meaning "to do something with soul, creativity or love; to put something of yourself in your work". We are 7 therapists at Meraki and our aim is to create a safe, compassionate and understanding space where we can explore solutions and find new empowering ways of dealing with challenges.

As an Educational Psychologist, I work with children, adolescents, young adults and parents who may be facing challenges related to learning, emotional well-being, behaviour, family changes, or developmental concerns. I understand that difficulties at school or at home can affect a child’s confidence and sense of self, and together we work to understand what may be underlying these struggles. My approach is compassionate, collaborative, and tailored to each client's individual needs. I draw from evidence-based approaches while also ensuring that my clients feel comfortable expressing themselves in ways that feel natural to them.

Dramatherapy is a safe, non-judgmental and non-confrontational way of exploring and reflecting on experiences and feelings. It is not about performing or being good at drama. It is a personal journey into self-discovery and wholeness that reaches deep within one’s soul. It is based less on talking and more on using the imagination and the body. It provides the opportunity to try out new ways of getting in touch with oneself and interacting with other people. It can help you to discover the ability that lies within you to be creative and playful.

Many people I meet are seeking meaningful connection; they yearn to be listened to, fully seen and understood for who they truly are. They need to belong. I believe that if we all stood in a circle and held hands, each of us could take a little love from the person on their right, absorb what they need and pass the remainder on, to the person on their left. Is this not our role on the planet - to nourish and uplift one another as best we can?

What does therapy for parenting look like?
Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.

When should a parent seek therapy?
When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.

How long does therapy take for parenting problems?
Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?
Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
