We all struggle to cope with the challenges of life from time to time and starting therapy can offer you a grounded space of support. I am a Clinical Psychologist and offer a nurturing and private space, for you to unpack your thoughts and gain clarity. Psychotherapy is an ideal platform to explore your pain, give words to unspoken trauma and help you manage when you feel overwhelmed, down or anxious. My way of working lends itself better to medium or longer-term psychotherapy as I enjoy doing depth work with my patients. This includes exploring how our earliest experiences influence how we see oursehow we connect with others.

Along this life journey we may get thrown a curve ball and may be facing difficulties that feel overwhelming and our usual coping mechanisms fail us. A soldier can only run so far on a wounded limb, until they pay attention to it and dress it up for healing. So it is with life. We may need to tend to, dress, and heal the wounds. Therapy can be a powerful mechanism of healing, growth and restoration. I work with children, adolescents, adults, and families who may be experiencing a wide range of including emotional, relational, psychiatric and health-related difficulties.

In life, we face many challenges that affect us on different levels. These may include stress, chronic pain, depression, anxiety, trauma and many others. How we deal with these challenges is important so that we can be mentally and physically healthy and live fulfilling lives. Sometimes, we just need someone to lend an ear and other times we need a professional to guide us in our process of healing. When working with clients, I believe that each client has the internal resources that can facilitate change and that thorugh a safe and non - judgmental space this can be achieved.

I work with adults, couples, and children who are facing challenges ranging from trauma, grief, and relationship difficulties to emotional or behavioural struggles. Some clients come to me for clarity through psychological, neuropsychological, medico-legal, or forensic assessments. Others seek therapy to process painful experiences, build resilience, or find new ways of coping. What they share is a wish for understanding, healing, and meaningful change. What they hope therapy will provide is a safe space to be truly seen and accepted.

My ideal client would be someone who feels overwhelmed, suicidal, stressed, emotionally exhausted, burn out, grieving for a loved one, anxious about life, feels hopeless, has relationship/marital issues, experiencing unresolved trauma, needs academic support, and has family and childhood issues.
The most important thing that I take into account as a clinician is that every individual is unique and therefore each session is tailored specifically to suit individual needs. My approach is solution oriented which integrates other approaches to therapy such as Cognitive behavioural therapy, Trauma informed therapy, and narrative therapy

Most people just want to be happy. While that can certainly be achieved through counselling, I believe happiness is an emotion, like others, that comes and goes. Instead I work with you to create more peace, joy and fulfilment in your life. These are deeper long-lasting goals that are the foundation of life satisfaction. Over and above the specific concern you wish to work on, I aim to help you connect with who you really are as a person and facilitate the path to who you would like to be.

Suicidal Ideation Counsellors

How does therapy for suicidal ideation work?

Stress, depression, anxiety, or upsetting circumstances can give rise to suicidal thinking. Therapy can address the events at the core of an individual’s suffering. Understanding why a person may be suicidal can help the therapist and the patient discover alternative methods of coping. A person with suicidal ideation may be mired in catastrophic thinking, and treatment like cognitive behavioural therapy is a good choice for breaking such patterns. In addition, treatment such as acceptance and commitment therapy can help a person manage their distress through better emotion regulation.

Which therapies are best for suicidal ideation?

Specific approaches used by professionals include cognitive behavioural, dialectical behaviour, psychodynamic, acceptance and commitment therapies, among others. Cognitive behavioural and dialectical behaviour therapies are two widely used therapies that can help individuals with painful thoughts and past traumas. These therapies help an individual tolerate distress, regulate emotions, and not act on dangerous urges.

Are there specific medications to be combined with therapy?

The use of medication for suicidal thoughts must be aligned with the underlying cause; conditions such as depression, anxiety, and psychosis may be at the root of suicidal ideation. A psychiatrist may prescribe medications for symptoms, which may include antipsychotics such as aripiprazole or antidepressants such as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors.

How often and how long are therapy sessions for suicidal ideation?

As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual. Patients may see improvement within 15 to 20 sessions, at an average of 50 minutes per session, while others may opt for 20 to 30 sessions over, perhaps, a six-month period. Still other patients, especially those with co-occurring conditions like major depression and anxiety, may need to continue sessions for up to 12 to 18 months. In some cases, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm.
