If you are angry, frustrated, feeling alone and helpless because you (or your teenager ) are being bullied, then I can help. There will always be bullies in life, its how you deal with them and how you view yourself that helps you to cope with the bullies. I understand the feelings of being alone, not wanting to carry on, wanting to give up. I also know that if you do not get help in your teenage years, you will be a victim of bullying throughout your life. I know that the bully has taken so much of your self-worth away. I can help you become the person you where before the bullying with more confidence and more self esteem.

The patient therapist fit is extremely important. No holding or containment can take place until the patient feels safe.I am caring and compassionate and my patients feel contained and feel accepted and safe in the space. Many of them have been through severe trauma and pain and this very often is converted into bodily pain.I have helped several patients in their struggle with chronic pain.

My ideal client is anybody who has suffered with a mental health issue such as, depression, anxiety, eating disorder, trauma, difficulties with a relationship or a desire to truly self actualize. This client is truly fed up and ready to heal or doesn't want to waste time just growing in awareness, but truly wants to see shifts in patterns of behavior and thinking.

If your child or teenager is struggling with any barriers whether it be emotional, social or academic, I urge you to reach out and find them the help the need.
Children and teenagers often find themselves in very difficult situations in which guidance, support and safe space to speak are needed. In today's world, children and teenagers are faced daily with emotional battles from anxiety to depression while managing school and other expectations, as well as navigating through the tough social life of finding themselves a place in this world among their friends and peers. Other children need guidance through assessment in order to understand their strengths and weaknesses better in order to empower them to put their best foot forward.

Whether you are an adolescent or adult (of any age), you are welcome.
I see psychotherapy both as a profession and a journey, which I undertake with my client. Psychotherapy is mostly about a safe, honest relationship, a unique one, between the client/s and the therapist. This relationship provides the confidential holding space in which the client learns about him/herself, how to trust, not just the therapist, but the self, and how to repair that which was damaged by life, either past or present, and how to head into the future. It empowers you to experience a growing sense of worth, better coping skills, and a personal sense of integration.

My name is Megan Vries. I am a clinical psychologist, based in Craighall Park. The majority of my work is with the adolescent and young adult population, including students and young professionals. This is a very challenging period as young people are experiencing cognitive, social, emotional and interpersonal changes. Adolescents may be under significantly more pressure than when they were younger, in that more is expected from them academically and socially.

Healing and transformation happens for all of us through expanded awareness. Firstly, we awaken to our unconscious purposes and become aware of the internal barriers that hold us back. This allows us to deconstruct the ego-illusion that has formed our identity and begin to freely access our authentic, Divine Self. We see new possibilities and experience new freedom, healing and growth. My holistic approach will support you to achieve the awakening, healing and transformation you want in your life. Teen Counsellors

What does therapy for teenagers look like?

When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.

How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?

There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.

How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.

How do you prepare teens for therapy?

You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
