Unfortunately, people encounter so much more than just these everyday stressors: trauma, violence, loss, discrimination and hate-crimes, to name a few, complicates our experience of being human
My approach to therapy integrates various therapeutic techniques in honor of the client's goals, where I work with my clients to create lasting change. In utilizing dynamic psychotherapy, we uncover unconscious processes that inform how a client relates to themselves and others, and process underlying emotions in a safe and supportive environment.

I work with individuals who wish to use their innate psychological strengths to enable meaningful growth, empowerment and goal realisation. It is important to me that psychological engagements are meaningful, create positive challenge, and lead to real growth, and personal exploration between sessions. I work with you to understand what is important to you and why, and then create a joint plan of action to help you move from a state of languishing, to one of flourishing. I do not do quick fixes, however, I also do not believe in engaging in more sessions than needed.

In this modern world we live in, we are exposed and overwhelmed by what we hear and see on a daily basis. Our "normal" now are days filled with violence, crime, trauma, stress, depression and burnout from long working hours and a rushed lifestyle. Our coping mechanisms are now drugs, alcohol and sex. All destructive. When we reach out and ask for help it is not a sign of weakness, but a sign of strength. It is a way to learn new coping skills and how to use them when facing our world and the challenges in it.

Smooth seas do not make skillful sailors. In life we are faced with many obsticles and changes that we have to go through in order to grow and live fulfilling lives. Unfortunately, these obsticles and life changes do not come with a "How to" manual. I'm a registered Clinical Psychologist based in Pretoria. As a clinician, my job is not to make people change, but rather my job is to plant seeds and help my clients water their own soil and cultivate it so they have a thriving environment to grow. I work with children, adolescents, and adults. I offer individual, couple and family therapy. I speak English, Chewa, Tonga and Zulu.

Individual Therapy: personal & social development, depression & anxiety, grief & trauma anger management sexuality-related difficulties (LGBTQIA +), identity difficulties substance use.
Life can get away with us and may make it difficult to keep in touch with yourself (whoever that is, whatever that looks like) and that is why I value the concept of taking care of yourself/myself, be it spiritually (religion, nature, art, etc), physically (picnicking, hiking or gym), mentally (reading and doing puzzles) and emotionally (talking, drawing, music, etc). We live in a high pressured, and at times critical society which can make it difficult to navigate even the most "mundane" tasks. I believe that having a safe, non-judgmental space in which to explore various issues is necessary in tension release & self-discovery.

I assess, diagnose and provide treatment to depression, anxiety, trauma, grief and relationship difficulties .
I believe that my role is to facilitate healing, growth and increased self awareness in my clients. This comes from my understanding that as people we face different life challenges and are often in conflict with the everchanging circumstances of our lives. We all use different coping skills to adapt to life and at times our coping skills are not sufficient and we are left feeling overwhelmed, helpless and hopeless. Mine is to journey with you through your process in identifying obstacles, removing of symptoms and lessening the pain while positioning yourself well within important social systems for self fulfilment.

In addition; the effects of trauma, loss, stress, mental illness, family problems, life changing events, abuse, employment challenges are areas of interest to me.
Is it really work if one loves what they do? The reason I became a Social Worker was because I never wanted to work a day in my life but to love what I do. It has always been my desire to help people find solutions to their life problems and I sought for a profession that covered all aspects of human behaviour, i. e psychology, sociology, culture, spiritual & therapy. Now 13 years later, I have never looked back. My experience with clients from diverse backgrounds has been a humbling journey not to mention fulfilling. I continue to hone my craft through continuous professional development to remain relevant to my clients.

Grief Counsellors

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
