I have experience in working with adults in the areas of depression, anxiety, trauma and grief.
I choose and utilize the approach that is most effective and suitable for clients in therapy. The therapeutic process requires a lot of internal work and it's difficult to face parts of the past or self that society often teaches us to ignore. However, we can work through this process together.

However, we underestimate the impact of the frequent traumas and stressors in our lives.
Negative emotions occur when we are stressed. At the start of 2025 we may say that we will just do better, act differently or put the stress behind us and move on. But sometimes events outside of our control cause problems again. In a safe therapeutic space that allows you to speak of the difficult feelings you can begin to understand and control them.

Their issues range from fear of not being good enough, addiction or alcoholism, past trauma and abuse, neglect, depression, feeling alone, anxiety and co-dependency.
I apply various therapeutic approaches to my counselling depending on the issues at hand. I help each individual to tackle their challenges one at a time comfortably and with ease. I focus on a goal oriented therapeutic process where I guide the client to find their way to their own best outcomes.

These challenges may include some more common complaints such as depression and anxiety, or those trying to come to terms with a trauma or bereavement.
I am less focused on the 'label' a person may have acquired over time (such as depressed, stressed, traumatised), but rather help them build a picture of what life is like when they are overcoming their respective challenges, and in that process discover what makes them unique when they are at their best (or on their way to being their best).

As Sexologist and somatic trauma release (TRE) specialist, I have extensive experience in human development, fulfilment and trauma release.
My experience is uniquely based in the human sciences as well as sexuality. I firmly belief that the solution to some problems only exists after we go through them, because our development is the solution. Interventions are research based and it is from this premise that we approach this journey and work alongside each other.

I am a Clinical Psychologist who works with individuals, adolescents and couples, who feel emotionally overwhelmed, stuck in repeating patterns, disconnected within relationships, or struggling to cope with stress, anxiety, self-doubt, burnout, or life transitions. Many arrive feeling exhausted from trying to manage things alone. Through a collaborative, grounded, and integrative therapeutic approach, I explore alongside clients ways to better understand themselves, strengthen emotional regulation, reconnect with their resilience, and develop healthier ways of coping, relating, and moving forward with greater confidence and balance.

My name is Megan Vries. I am a clinical psychologist, based in Craighall Park, providing therapy to adults and adolescents. There are constant demands placed on adults, including family responsibility, navigating interpersonal relationships, and work demands. Similarly, Adolescence and young adulthood is a challenging period as young people are experiencing cognitive, social, emotional and interpersonal changes. Adolescents may be under significantly more pressure than when they were younger, in that more is expected from them academically and socially.

Most people just want to be happy. While that can certainly be achieved through counselling, I believe happiness is an emotion, like others, that comes and goes. Instead I work with you to create more peace, joy and fulfilment in your life. These are deeper long-lasting goals that are the foundation of life satisfaction. Over and above the specific concern you wish to work on, I aim to help you connect with who you really are as a person and facilitate the path to who you would like to be.

People usually seek help from a psychologist when they want something to change. This desire for change may be motivated by painful thoughts and feelings, a situation at work, school, or at home, a challenging event, or relationships with others. Sometimes people work with a psychologist because they want a better understanding of themselves, to change behaviours, or to develop new skills to support their well-being. If any of this is true for you or for someone you care about, getting in contact with a psychologist is a useful step to take.

Trauma and PTSD Counsellors
When should I seek treatment for trauma?
Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?
Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?
Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?
It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
