People usually seek help from a psychologist when they want something to change. This desire for change may be motivated by painful thoughts and feelings, a situation at work, school, or at home, a challenging event, or relationships with others. Sometimes people work with a psychologist because they want a better understanding of themselves, to change behaviours, or to develop new skills to support their well-being. If any of this is true for you or for someone you care about, getting in contact with a psychologist is a useful step to take.

Are you at a stage in your life where you feel like you are stuck in a rut, or tired of self-sabotaging your own happiness and success, or tired of being tired? Feeling overly anxious all the time, depressed and disconnected, yet still showing up to all your responsibilities?
This is where I can help! I work therapeutically with high strivers who feel like they have become disconnected from themselves, others, and their internal drive. What used to help them cope in the past, no longer works. I combine methods strategically and practically, but all with an underpinning in philosophy and neuroscience.

I am a Clinical Psychologist who works with people across the lifespan through a wide range of difficulties. Central to my work is an existential philosophy — The belief that therapy is not only about alleviating distress, but also about discovering meaning, embracing uncertainty, and moving toward a more authentic and fulfilling way of being.

Hello, I'm Jodie!
You might be coping on the outside while feeling overwhelmed on the inside.
Life can feel heavy, uncertain or demanding and it can be difficult to make sense of everything being carried, especially when expectations continue to pile up. Anxiety, low mood, stress, grief, or significant life changes such as shifts in relationships, work, identity, or relocating can quietly add to this sense of strain. What is often needed is a space to slow down, speak openly, and feel understood without judgement, alongside support that helps bring clarity, steadiness, and a clearer way forward.

Francoise takes a trauma-based approach to counselling, assuming that everyone has experienced trauma in some way. Small individual traumas can seem insignificant, but the cumulative effect can be like paper that is weakened by continued perforation. Healing can take place when we create safe spaces for painful experiences.

Sleep or Insomnia Counsellors
How effective is treatment for insomnia?
The most effective treatments for insomnia are behavioral techniques that reduce anxiety, including anxiety about falling asleep, and allow the body’s natural cycles to be recalibrated. The most common treatment is cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I), which researchers have found to be more useful than medication, with rates of success as high as 80 percent.
Are there specific medications for sleep problems?
There are many medications, both over-the-counter and prescription that treat sleep problems. Supplements such as melatonin are popular and may help, though there is little evidence that it is more effective than a placebo. Prescription medications such as zolpidem are sometimes prescribed.
Are there natural treatments for sleep problems?
There are many natural treatments for everyday sleep problems. Reducing blue-light emitting screens, setting a regular bedtime, regular exercise, reducing caffeine and nicotine consumption, and keeping the bedroom dark and cool at night are all lifestyle changes that can help those who struggle with sleep but may not reach the level of an insomnia diagnosis.
What’s the difference between having trouble falling asleep and insomnia?
Life events, stress, and anxiety can lead to sleepless nights for everyone from time to time. To be diagnosed with insomnia, a patient must experience trouble falling asleep, trouble remaining asleep, waking up too early, or non-restorative sleep at least three nights per week for at least one month. Sleep problems affect one-third to one-half of the population, while chronic insomnia affects about 10 to 15 percent of people.
