It is of great importance to me to create a safe environment for my clients to work through their everyday difficulties. Life is tough but so are you. You do not have to walk this journey alone, let's walk it together to ensure that you are functioning at your best and reach your fullest potential. Tribulations and shortcomings should not be given the power to define and dictate how we live our lives but rather let's take our power back and use it to optimise our daily functioning through counselling. One wise person once said: "If it is out of your hands, it deserves freedom from your mind too." Grow through what you go through.

This includes, trauma, stress, burnout, grief, relationship issues, challenges of adolescence, adjustment to a new life phase or stressor (such as a chronic or terminal illness) or feeling anxious or depressed.
I have a passion to be with clients within their current pain, but not leaving you there. Additionally, while I do this, listening for signs of coping, resilience, and skills DESPITE your circumstances. From here I guide you to move closer to the best version of yourself. Moving to a hope-filled future, even amidst dire circumstances.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy CBT is a proven, effective approach that has been widely researched and shown to be beneficial for a variety of difficulties, including anxiety, depression, stress, and more.
The way we see ourselves, often shaped by past experiences, can become the biggest obstacle to our growth. To move forward, we must challenge these self-imposed limits and reshape our mindset to welcome new possibilities. One of life’s most incredible realisations is that we are not bound by who we’ve been - we have the ability to change.

I am a Clinical Psychologist and Psychotherapist. I work with adults and older teens (16+) who want deeper self-understanding. My approach suits people who are open to a longer-term therapy process and looking for more than quick relief. Many of the people I see are exploring early life trauma, identity, belonging, race, marginality, and other issues of positionality. Others seek therapy due to difficulties with their experience of themselves, and issues in relationships and work. I have a good understanding of issues facing entrepreneurs, creatives, professionals, academics, and students.

Starting therapy is a courageous and very important step. It is possible that you have experienced a variety of losses, changed how you normally feel, or felt a strong desire to understand more about and appreciate who you are. Counselling is a setting that can be useful for navigating these situations, discovering new identities, and getting over obstacles in life. The main objective of therapy is to essentially improve the client's relationship with themselves and the outside world, in addition to helping them realize their goals. We assist clients in pursuing their ideal quality of life during therapy.

I am happy to help where I can with special applications eg for depression.
I've been a psychologist for 24 years, after a long business career. I'm committed to fostering a trusting relationship where individuals feel safe to open up and share their true selves. Together, we cultivate an environment in which people discover their inner qualities, strengths, and resilience, make sense of challenging situations and often painful pasts, and build a future where they maintain a strong sense of well-being. My experience shows that clients seek an open, honest, practical and future-focused therapist.

I have experience in helping clients with challenges relating to depression, anxiety, trauma and grief - as symptoms of existing conditions, and/or as responses to circumstantial stress.
My approach is informed by Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, as well as an overarching concern with holistic wellbeing (psychological, physical, social, spiritual etc.). Most notably, my treatment approach is not confined to sessions, but rather extends into daily life through "homework" - involving the use of skills and strategies developed in-session.

My specialisms include addiction, anxiety, depression, couples work, bereavement, relationship problems, self esteem, and trauma.
I offer counselling and therapeutic life coaching. Clients will come to me with a range of problems and often feel some confusion. In our work we will clarify the problem and see what is most challenging for you at the present time. We will discover where this confusion arises in the body and mind and be able to see what started it. Perhaps this has been triggered in the past: by an environment, people, a person, upbringing etc. The work we do is non-judgemental and my purpose is to help you find your way out of the confusion and suffering, so you can find success, purpose and meaning in your life. I will be with you all the way

What is the goal of therapy for depression?

Therapy for depression has several major goals. One is to relieve the mental pain of depression, which distorts feeling and thinking so that sufferers cannot see beyond their current state of mind or envision feeling better. Another is to give people the mental tools to recognise and correct the kinds of distorted thinking that turn a problem into a catastrophe and lead to despair. Therapy also teaches people how to process negative emotions in constructive ways, so they have more control over their own emotional reactivity. And it helps people regain the ability to see themselves positively, the motivation to do things, and the capacity for pleasure.

What happens in therapy for depression?

Perhaps most important, no matter the type of therapy, patients form an alliance with the therapist; that connection is therapeutic in itself, plus it becomes an instrument of change. Patients learn to identify and to challenge their own erroneous beliefs and thoughts that amplify the effects of negative experiences. They learn to identify situations in which they are especially vulnerable. And they learn new patterns of thinking and behaving. They may be given “homework” assignments in which they practice their developing skills. In addition, good therapists regularly monitor patients to assess whether and how much the condition is improving.

What therapy types help with depression?

Several types of short-term therapy have been found effective, each targeting one or more areas of dysfunction. Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) helps clients challenge their negative thoughts and beliefs, learn new behavioral strategies, and curb reactivity to distressing situations. Behavioural activation (BA) is a form of therapy often used in conjunction with CBT; it focuses on engagement in rewarding activity as a pathway to changing negative feelings and disturbed mood. Another widely used approach is interpersonal therapy (IPT), which targets the social difficulties that both give rise to and get exacerbated by depression. Therapists may combine approaches as needed.

Can therapy for depression be done online?

Studies have found that online therapy can be highly effective for treating depression, although it may be more challenging to build a good therapist-patient alliance on screen than in person—at least at first. However, online therapy can offer considerable advantages. Accessibility and convenience are tops among them. Some people actually find it easier to talk about problems online than in person. While online therapy typically limits visibility of facial expression and body gestures that give important nonverbal cues to a patient’s state of mind, it can give therapists a glimpse into a patient’s world and life, providing information that can be highly useful in guiding therapy.

How effective is therapy for depression?

Many studies show that therapy is highly effective provided that patients complete the prescribed course of therapy, commonly 16 to 20 sessions. Over the long term, it is more effective than medication and the effects are more enduring. As a result, psychotherapy has the power not just to relieve current suffering but to prevent future episodes of the disorder. Therapy reverses the dysfunction in neural circuitry that disposes individuals to a negative view of themselves, the world, and their future and they acquire coping techniques, problem-solving skills, and understanding of their own vulnerabilities that are useful over the course of a lifetime.
