I am a clinical psychologist working with adult individuals, couples and adolescents. I am primarily interested in our relationships and our sense of self in relation to others, oneself, the future and the world. We may sometimes find ourselves feeling lost and confused. I am interested in these human struggles and our attempts to find meaning in sometimes chaotic, uncertain contexts. Ultimately, we are searching for a sense of home and belonging, a place where we can just be ourselves. We may lack internal cohesion and search outside for answers. I offer a space for slowing down and for reflective action. Be there.

Hello, I'm Jodie!
You might be coping on the outside while feeling overwhelmed on the inside.
Life can feel heavy, uncertain or demanding and it can be difficult to make sense of everything being carried, especially when expectations continue to pile up. Anxiety, low mood, stress, grief, or significant life changes such as shifts in relationships, work, identity, or relocating can quietly add to this sense of strain. What is often needed is a space to slow down, speak openly, and feel understood without judgement, alongside support that helps bring clarity, steadiness, and a clearer way forward.

My primary modalities include Psychodynamic therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT).
My ideal clients are parents, learners, and families at a point of decision who need clarity to move forward.
I translate complex assessments into practical roadmaps. I have a special interest in psycho-educational assessments to identify learning barriers, school-readiness assessments to ensure a confident start to formal schooling, career assessments to align ability with identity, and psycho-legal assessments that meet HPCSA and legal standards.

I am a psychologist who works from a psychodynamic and cognitive behavioural perspective.
In life, we face many challenges that affect us on different levels. These may include stress, chronic pain, depression, anxiety, trauma and many others. How we deal with these challenges is important so that we can be mentally and physically healthy and live fulfilling lives. Sometimes, we just need someone to lend an ear and other times we need a professional to guide us in our process of healing. When working with clients, I believe that each client has the internal resources that can facilitate change and that thorugh a safe and non - judgmental space this can be achieved.

My work is relational and psychodynamic, focusing on patterns, relationships, and past experiences that shape how you experience yourself and the world now.
Welcome. I'm really glad you're here.
I aim to offer therapy as a space that feels calm, thoughtful, and genuinely human. I’m a warm and curious therapist by nature, and many people I work with are used to coping well on the outside while carrying a lot internally - anxiety, self-doubt, emotional overwhelm, or a sense of feeling disconnected from themselves or others. Therapy can be a place to slow things down, reflect, and begin to understand what’s really going on beneath the surface.

We are all guided by stories. Some stories we tell ourselves, some we have inherited, and some quietly shape our daily lives. Together, we can uncover these loud and silent stories, creating a space where reflection leads to meaningful action and change. Every journey is unique and I welcome the opportunity to explore yours with empathy, curiosity, and commitment.

I work with adolescents, adults, couples & polycules, including those seeking LGBTQIA+ affirming and neurodiversity-affirming therapy. Many come with complex trauma, dissociation, psychosexual concerns, relationship difficulties, or the enduring effects of childhood abuse and neglect. They may feel divided between self-states, caught in shame or repetition, or unable to sustain intimacy without losing themselves. In psychotherapy we explore these experiences, helping what has been difficult to think or hold become more integrated, with room for choice and connection.

The beauty of therapy is that it can be helpful to everyone. Therapy is designed to assist people with a wide variety of issues from grief, job stress and relationship hurdles to personality disorders, depression, and anxiety. Sometimes you may laugh or you may cry, but you can expect therapy to be a space dedicated to you. It allows the freedom for self-exploration and healing without judgement or restriction.

Psychodynamic Counsellors
Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?
Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.
How long does psychodynamic therapy last?
Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.
Does psychodynamic therapy work?
Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.
What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?
Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
