Feeling truly seen is transformative. I work psychodynamically to facilitate deep understanding into one’s ways of relating and being in the world. Acknowledging all parts of oneself with honesty and compassion can lead to meaningful and lasting change. I am dedicated to fostering a therapeutic relationship built on trust, empathy, and collaboration.

I like to consider each individual holistically no matter what difficulty or problem is being experienced. The aim is to bring body, thoughts and feelings into balance in order to dislodge “stuckness” and dispel unhelpful fear, while promoting Optimal living through developing better self-awareness, in-sight and deep healing.

Hi, My name is Jacqui. I came upon the decision of going into Social Work and Play Therapy in 2018. What guided me to this decision was the realization that I had a passion for helping people and for working with children. I think my personality is what makes me able to communicate so easily with children. I am a person who is fun, loving and caring and if a phrase could describe me it would be that “I am a child at heart”. What I offer here at Pondering Possibilities is a service that will help you and your child navigate the stressors of life, through activities focused on therapy and play. Look forward to meeting you soon.

We all struggle to cope with the challenges of life from time to time and starting therapy can offer you a grounded space of support. I am a Clinical Psychologist and offer a nurturing and private space, for you to unpack your thoughts and gain clarity. Psychotherapy is an ideal platform to explore your pain, give words to unspoken trauma and help you manage when you feel overwhelmed, down or anxious. My way of working lends itself better to medium or longer-term psychotherapy as I enjoy doing depth work with my patients. This includes exploring how our earliest experiences influence how we see oursehow we connect with others.

My ideal client has taken the first step of bravery to delve deeper into whatever is troubling their hearts. I imagine them to set expectations and goals for me to mark what they would like to achieve within my practice. I imagine my client to want a safe space, which I will gladly hold for them. I imagine them to be openminded, willing to learn and actually work on themselves. Healing is not linear, and it definitely takes them doing their inner work to heal. I imagine for my clients to not be dependent on me, but rather see me as their crutch or someone to hold their hand in times where their life does not feel balanced.

Welcome! I'm Christina Pereira, a Clinical Psychologist driven by a passion for helping people transform their lives. I believe everyone deserves a sanctuary where they can genuinely feel secure. My work is fuelled by my desire to build collaborative relationships where people are able to gain mastery over their difficulties and relationships. My goal is to work together with the client, in a warm and empathic environment to uncover and understand the root causes of emotional difficulties. I explore with the client, unhelpful and unhealthy patterns of being and relating to others, from childhood throughout to adulthood. My goal is to help the client become aware of these behaviors so they might work towards healthier ways of coping and relating to others, thus living a more emotionally fulfilling life.

My ideal client is ready to face their denial, fears and aspects of themselves that they have been avoiding. Their issues range from fear of not being good enough, addiction or alcoholism, past trauma and abuse, neglect, depression, feeling alone, anxiety and co-dependency. They need to be heard and understood and feel that they are overwhelmed by their daily responsibilities. They need to feel safe and find a way to cope with their emotions. They want to find a way to feel less stressed and stuck. They want to overcome the fear that they have been living with.

Life can be very challenging. We are sometimes faced with situations that are beyond our control, such as the loss of a loved one or the actions of our partners and families. We are not always in control of the experiences life gives us, but we are in control of how we deal with them. At times even our own actions or decisions cause us stress and pain. Whichever journey it is that you need to explore in order to heal and grow, remember to reach out for help. You do not have to go through it alone.

Female Counsellors

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
