My ideal client is a person that realizes that instead of being controlled he/she has the ability to take back control of their lives. I value the courage of clients who decided to be vulnerable and want to provide clients with a safe space in which they can express freely without any fear.

Specializing in stress, coping skills, relationships, careers, and men’s issues, I use CBT, ACT, and mindfulness to create a safe space for exploring concerns and building strategies for positive change and personal growth.
My practice is open to clients from all backgrounds. The individuals I work with often seek a safe and supportive space to address issues such as stress, relationship challenges, career guidance, men’s issues, and personal growth. Together, we work on developing coping strategies and finding balance. The ultimate goal is to help clients manage life’s challenges, enhance their well-being, and reach their personal and professional potential.

I use a mix of therapeutic modalities which includes Mindfulness, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Narrative Therapy.
Your child just hasn't been themselves lately. They struggle to separate from you during drop-off at school and no longer want to participate in their favourite after-school activities. Your teen seems stressed at school and anxious at home. You struggle to connect with them as they are often closed off, highly strung and isolate themselves from you and the rest of the family. Are you ready to see your child conquer depression or anxiety and thrive in life?

I am a qualified yoga and mindfulness instructor and often plan wellness retreats across SA.
My therapeutic approach is more practical and action-orientated that aims towards creating a rich and meaningful life. This includes learning to accept the pain that inevitably comes with it instead of trying to alleviate it. I believe happiness can be achieved when we commit ourselves towards living a life that aligns with our values. Collaboratively we work together to increase psychological flexibility, adaptability, and tolerance. This means expanding beyond d the pain, not avoiding it. This will look different based on individual needs.

Mindfulness-Based (MBCT) Counsellors

How does mindfulness-based cognitive therapy work?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy originated in the work of John Kabat-Zinn of the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He developed mindfulness-based stress reduction, which is a technique found in yoga and meditation. MBCT is a combination of this type of stress reduction and cognitive behavioral therapy; it essentially quiets emotional distress through mindfulness, utilizing proper breathing and meditation. These techniques aim to bring the individual into the present moment when in a state of distress.

When do I know if I need treatment with mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

If an individual’s mind is filled with emotional distress and general negativity, the person may feel trapped. A mindfulness-based cognitive therapist can help a person change their thinking patterns as well as their behaviour through calm acceptance and compassion. This therapy can provide an individual with the coping skills needed for a healthier and more constructive life.

What should I expect from mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

This therapy often takes place in group sessions. A therapist will work with the group as well as with each individual. Meditation and breathing exercises are core practices that aim to invite inquiry and discovery into a person’s troubled mental state. The objective is to identify and lessen negative thoughts and behaviours and move toward optimal health and productivity. The individual will see life in a more realistic way. This therapy is supportive, accepting, and warm.

Is mindfulness-based cognitive therapy effective?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy is evidence-based and effective. One study found that people with major depressive disorder have benefitted from this type of therapy; the person accepts their distressed thoughts and also moves into healthier patterns of thinking. This therapy also aims to move an individual away from automatic negative responses. This type of therapy can bring a person lifelong change, with higher levels of satisfaction, less stress, as well as positive emotional and behavioural habits.
