“ Therapy is a dress rehearsal to life”- Ivirn Yalom. Psychotherapy is therefore a great preparatory and supportive space to address whatever life challenges a person may face such as; personal, relationship/ marital difficulties, work related stressors, parenting issues, school related issues etc. Through psychotherapy we engage client in systematic and humanistic approaches to promote self-awareness, growth and interpersonal understanding. Our therapeutic point of departure is embedded in the fact that mental health difficulties are mostly relational.

“You will never be able to escape from your heart so it is better to listen to what it has to say.” True connection between a psychologist and a client can bring profound personal growth. A platform can be created for the client to give life to their heart’s yearning – be it a desire to deal with
trauma
, to improve interpersonal relationships, to navigate through difficult phases of life or even to develop emotional intelligence. When consulting with a psychologist a channel is created for you to hear the true language of your heart.

Overall, I have a keen interest in individual counselling, mental health, life skills, relationship counselling,
trauma
resolution, and post-traumatic growth.
My name is Danica Freimond (pictured on the right with my husband, Sean). I am a registered social worker with a passion to leave people better than I found them. I work from the person-centred approach and place a high value on your innate ability to change and grow. Just because we cannot see a mental health problem, doesn't mean it doesn't exist. Mental health should carry the exact same weight as a broken leg; you wouldn't walk around on a broken leg, don't walk around with untreated mental health problems; reach out for help! "The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change" C. R. Rogers

As a clinician and psychotherapist, I see people as unique beings trying their best in life. Challenges come because they find themselves stuck and disconnected from the world. In this way, ineffective patterns are formed between themselves and their systems (i.e. families, social, culture, religion, work, etc.). My initial goal is to understand my clients/patients from their point of view without making assumptions. From there, we move together to create a context for change. Treatment of disorders includes Depression, anxiety,
trauma
-related disorders, Grief/loss, relationship problems, and others.

I work with people of all ages – children, adolescents and adults – dealing with a range of psychological and psychiatric difficulties that include, but are not limited to, depression, anxiety,
trauma
and changes in mood. My passion lies in working with adolescents and young adults, providing a space where my clients are able to engage freely from a position of safety. I also have a keen interest in working with victims of cybercrime related to extortion. My belief around running my practice is quality over quantity, as I place significant value on both the time I can offer my clients and a deep engagement in the overall process.

Smooth seas do not make skillful sailors. In life we are faced with many obsticles and changes that we have to go through in order to grow and live fulfilling lives. Unfortunately, these obsticles and life changes do not come with a "How to" manual. I'm a registered Clinical Psychologist based in Hatfield, Pretoria. As a clinician, my job is not to make people change, but rather my job is to plant seeds and help my clients water their own soil and cultivate it so they have a thriving environment to grow. I work with children (from the age of 5), adolescents, and adults. I offer individual, couple and family therapy.

When should I seek treatment for trauma?
Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.
How long does trauma therapy take?
Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.
What happens if trauma is left untreated?
Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.
Can PTSD come back after treatment?
It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
