My ideal client is someone whether a child, adolescent, or adult facing challenges such as learning difficulties, emotional regulation, anxiety, low self-esteem, behavioural concerns, or life transitions. Parents may seek clarity on school readiness or academic issues, while adults may want to build resilience and self-understanding. They value a safe, non-judgmental space to be heard, gain practical solutions, and work toward emotional well-being, stronger relationships, academic growth, and renewed confidence, knowing that with the right tools, positive change is possible.

I work with clients who may be struggling with adjustment (individual, couples, families- related to their personal growth, relationships or family.
I am a counselling psychologist in Pretoria with a strong background in Christianity. I worked as a pastor for over 25 years before training as a psychologist. However, when you consult with me, you consult with a psychologist, not a pastor, unless you require spiritual counselling. I worked with couples who experienced challenges using the Marriage Encounter approach to strengthen their relationships and couples who are ready to throw in the towel by using Retroavaille approach to give them a lifeline. I work with adults (individuals and couples) to explore their challenges. I offer a safe and supportive environment.

Do you need a safe space to air your thoughts and speak your heart? Do you need to navigate a difficult season in your life? Or do you need to heal from something that you are tired of hurting from? Life is beautiful but just like the rose, it comes with thorns. All of us need support sometimes, no matter who we are, and no matter our age. A specific traumatic event, a transition that you are going through like divorce or relocation, school or friendship issues, work issues, mental health difficulties like depression and anxiety, or just the desire for a mental health and personal growth check-in may bring you to therapy.

I have extensive experience supporting clients across the lifespan - from children and teenagers to young adults and families - in diverse settings including primary and high schools, university, community programs, and hospitals.
As a qualified Counselling Psychologist, I believe therapy to be a space where healing meets possibility - a place where the parts of your story that are often left in the footnotes are brought to the center, seen, and honored. I aim to create a space that is culturally attuned, socially conscious, and responsive - where every aspect of your identity is recognized and valued. For me, therapy is about exploring your inner world and the social contexts that shape your experiences, gaining clarity, insight, and moving toward growth, resilience, and wholeness.

What do family therapists do?
A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?
Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?
You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?
Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
