Amidst these times of disruption, many are experiencing a deep sense of loss, uncertainty, fear for the future and a sense of hopelessness. Some have lost employment, others have lost friends and family through death, for most, the stability of everyday reality has changed dramatically. Consolidating these experiences, allowing the processes to evolve and find expression, in a holistic and meaningful way, can assist in lightening the load that is ours to carry. In adapting to change we are able to reimagine, see possibility and potential and embrace a new way of being that is authentic and strengthens our resilience.

I'm a trauma-informed drama therapist working with couples, adults and adolescents navigating life transitions (expat, new parent), grief, unwanted or difficult experiences like a chronic condition (scoliosis and auto-immune), anxiety and conflicts in relationships. Identifying the stories (and their roots) which no longer serve you or are keeping you stuck, is key to finding the meaning in all parts of the human experience. Expanding this repertoire of available narratives, by creating new stories or new versions of old ones, can help to develop the strength, insight and flexibility to manoeuvre through challenging times.

Have you been finding yourself struggling lately? Do you feel heavy hearted with feelings of hopelessness? Are you emotionally exhausted? It's okay to ask for help. You are safe here, and you are not alone. As Carl Rogers once said "The good life is a process, not a state of being. It is a direction, not a destination." Whether you and your partner are experiencing some rough patches, if you as an individual are finding your anxiety levels have risen, or if you have unresolved trauma that you can feel creeping in and taking it's toll, I can help.

Your child just hasn't been themselves lately. They struggle to separate from you during drop-off at school and no longer want to participate in their favourite after-school activities.
Your teen seems stressed at school and anxious at home. You struggle to connect with them as they are often closed off, highly strung and isolate themselves from you and the rest of the family.
Are you ready to see your child conquer depression or anxiety and thrive in life?

My ideal client is a woman who carries a quiet heaviness, feeling overwhelmed, unseen or unsure of where to turn. She may be going through significant life shifts, struggling to maintain boundaries, or feeling disconnected from the person she used to be. She longs for a space where she can exhale, be heard without judgment and gently find her way back to herself. Her goal is to feel grounded, safe and empowered to create a life that reflects her truth.

You are unique, with your own strengths and weaknesses. With the right perspective and tools, you can overcome great challenges. There is much to be gained by working through our challenges- a fuller, more authentic and abundant life. But admitting that you're facing troubles, that you need assistance or that you do not feel fulfilled is the first step. Reach out if you need a safe space & an empathetic ear to work through difficulties, and to discover the hope that lies beyond what you have experienced. "Everything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of the human freedoms—to choose one’s attitude in given circumstances"

You don’t have to hold it all together here.
I support quiet strivers, sensitive souls, and perfectionists who are tired of carrying everything alone. You might look like you’re coping on the outside — but inside, you’re overwhelmed, anxious, and longing to just breathe and feel like yourself again.
Together, we’ll create a space where you can exhale, explore your story without judgment, and reconnect with the parts of you that have been silenced or stretched too thin. Whether you're navigating burnout, self-doubt, or healing from emotional wounds, my approach is warm, trauma-informed, and grounded in compassion.

Many people seem to cope quite fine. So why is it so hard for you? You may look around and wonder how others seem to manage life so easily. They call them “little things”, but to you, they feel overwhelming. They can focus at work, while your mind is pulled back into distressing memories.
It’s not because you’re weak or dramatic.
It’s because your nervous system is still responding to unprocessed pain.
Living like this is exhausting, you try to keep up - but you're overwhelmed.
You feel like you're always falling behind, always bracing for the next thing to go wrong.
Maybe you're missing out on the life you should be living?

I consult with individuals (adults only) and couples. I view every individual I encounter as unique. I therefore alter my psychotherapeutic approach to fit best with the client in front of me. I work mostly from a person-centred approach, including elements of cognitive-behavioural, solution-focused, and narrative psychotherapy. If I think it would be most beneficial to you, I may follow a pure psychodynamic approach during which I act mainly as a reflecting mirror. Often this approach requires a longer-term commitment to therapy to reap the full benefits. A psychodynamic approach may however also be used successfully short-term.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
Psychologists listed in the directory are registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA). The majority of General Counsellors featured in the directory align themselves with reputable professional bodies, particularly the Association for Supportive Counsellors and Holistic Practitioners. All Registered Counsellors listed must be registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA). Social Workers listed in the directory must be registered with the South African Council for Social Service Professionals.
Providers whose professional membership or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Given that professional memberships are not a statutory requirement for general counsellors in South Africa, certain qualified professionals or organisations may choose not to maintain such memberships despite possessing the necessary qualifications. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?
Psychologists, counsellors and social workers can all provide counselling or talking therapy and have credentials and supervised, practical experience that enable them to do so in South Africa.
Psychologists have five years training in psychology, have completed an internship over 12 months, and have completed the National Examination of the Professional Board for Psychology. They must be registered with Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA). Registered Counsellors must have at least four years of study at a university or college, such as the Bachelor of Psychology and have completed the National Examination of the Professional Board for Psychology. General counsellors, such as Supportive Counsellors, Holistic Counsellors, and Wellness Counsellors, registered with the ASCHP must possess at least an NQF Level 4 qualification. Social Workers must possess a Bachelor of Social Work and must have completed an approved internship in the social service sector.

What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
How much does therapy cost?
The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, the cost of a therapy session in South Africa could be between R600 and R1,500. If you have private insurance, your plan may cover some if not all of your sessions. You should contact your insurance provider to determine if they provide coverage for therapy sessions and to determine what, if any, requirements they might have in order for your sessions to be covered, such as a referral from your GP or medical specialist.
What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?
Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.
Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.
Are therapy sessions confidential?
Therapists who are registered with the HPCSA and professional organisations such as PsySSA or the ASCHP are bound by an ethical framework that requires them to uphold a confidentiality agreement. Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship and only under specific circumstances, such as when there is the potential or known harm to the client, or as required by law, will a therapist be obligated to break the agreement. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed during the initial consultation.
