Puzzle about the nature and implications of their sexual orientation brings many LGBTI persons to seek counselling. They have little more than the negative stereotypes that pervade contemporary society and are frightened and isolated. This creates the felt pressure to conform to family and society's expectations. Frightened and isolated they need encouragement and reassurance, especially from their families who may themselves feel confused and disorientated - thus also in need of counselling. The LGBTI persons mostly need to be enabled to self-identify and be themselves.
My specialty is Pastoral Counselling. My approach is adapted and developed from the work of Bernard Lonergan. It delves into spiritual development and growth to heal and support holistic wellness. It could be a useful option for individuals struggling with identity disorders. Through Pastoral Counselling I offer encouragement and reassurance to persons.
I pour myself into being with the burdened person. This means I concentrate on listening and responding with caring empathy. I focus my energy on being aware of and with the person in an alive human relationship. In this way I build rapport - the sturdy bridge that connects the islands of awareness of two human beings.
