Even if you convinced every Joe Blow that climate change is real, the problem is still that many people live paycheck to paycheck. And any politicians who implemented policies strict enough to FULLY force the reductions in CO2 that are needed -- those politicians would be summarily voted out of office because of the expenses of infrastructure change and the current expense of alternative energies.

The problem isn't really so much any particular party or corporate cabal, it's simply the fact that in a democracy like ours, a lot of people are going to vote their pocketbook. So the only way you're going to make real progress is by doing the research and manufacturing development to make alternative energy sources MUCH CHEAPER, at which point the problem takes care of itself, no government prodding needed. And at that point, it won't even matter if Joe Blow believes in climate change or not.
