You forgot the part where Aaron Hernandez was sexually molested for 6 years as a young boy. This event is critical in his development into a killer. For 6 years he must have felt feelings of powerlessness, humiliation, and victimization. Such experiences as a child are nearly universal among killers, and why they feel the need to seek power later and are so deeply insecure. His father, a primary caregiver, rejected and hated his son's true self due to Aaron's homosexuality; Aaron felt deep shame about his true identity. His mother used and manipulated men ruthlessly as seen by her demanding a million dollars from Aaron and callously moving on from her husbands death. His mom, another primary caregiver, saw her child as a source to take from, not something to provide for. This would cause him to distrust women and people in general.
Hated by even his own father, incapable of trusting even his own mother, sexually abused by an older individual as a child. These are the three things that made Aaron Hernandez what he was. These events painted his dark world in which humans are generally hostile, exploitative, and vicious. Given such experiences, how could you expect him to believe in kindness and empathy as more than lies and manipulations. Is it any surprise he saw hostility and "testing" in the admiring eyes of strangers and those around him.
People say his actions don't make sense, but they do to me, even without CTE. Society and humanity failed treat him with even the most basic respect, kindness, and dignity, so why do we feel entitled to him acting sociably and morally. Yeah we gave him 40$M and he was a world class athlete; that doesn't matter in the least towards Aarons contentment and satisfaction with the world. How could he ever feel powerful after 6 years of molestation? How much is the love and acceptance of a father worth, and a trusting secure relationship with a mother worth? We need to build a society that protects all citizens from such childhood traumas and PTSD or we will just keep making anti-social monsters.
He would've been better without parents, and the one exceptional shining light in this story is his loyal, supportive, thoughtful, caring wife who sacrificed for him and stood by him to the end. Probably the only true friend and real thing he ever had and unfortunately it wasn't enough to save him, because I think he was good-hearted deep down.
For the love of god, can we as a whole just leave drugs and weed out these conversations. Weed is legal, doesn't incite violent or aggression, and like many drugs is recreational and fun. Obviously he was using weed to cope with his psychological damage and pacify himself; if anything he should have taken more drugs. For instance MDMA has been shown to treat PTSD and maybe wouldve revealed to him the love his parents never showed him. It is bizarre to me in this day and age the media and psychologists insinuate his smoking weed and minor drug use contributed to murder.
