Youth Residential Addiction Treatment
Our ideal client is an adolescent (ages 12-18) struggling with substance use disorder. Our residential treatment program is voluntary, which means they come to YSS because they want to make a change. Our program is most often the next step after traditional outpatient therapy has not been sufficient. We help youth who know they need to make a change and they want support and guidance on their journey. Our counselors are highly trained to help build coping skills, educate on substance abuse, and motivate youth to be successful in their journey toward sobriety. Each individual client’s progress is reviewed by the treatment team during a weekly supervision. Their goal is to leave our program sober and prepared to process stress, anger, and challenges in a healthy, productive manner. Our gender-specific treatment helps youth develop coping skills, healthy relationship-building skills, and relapse prevention strategies. Family is integrated into treatment through visits, family therapy, virtual parent information sessions, and our unique Strengthening Families Weekend. We continue to support youth after they graduate from our program and return to their communities. YSS is Unique.
We offer residential treatment in cozy, home-like settings. The environment is not institutional; our Ames boys' and girls' programs actually reside in historic homes. Our treatment program in Mason City is located in our newly-renovated, state-of-the-art YSS Francis Lauer campus. In addition, our programs are gender-responsive. Following extensive research that shows keeping adolescents separated by gender during treatment is beneficial, YSS offers the only such treatment in the state of Iowa. While in treatment, youth receive individual, group, and family therapy. Cohorts are kept to similar ages; the average age of a YSS residential client is 15. Youth continue their education while in treatment and, in many cases, are able to catch up on high school credits they previously missed. Outdoor activities, cultural meals, peer mentorships, and daily fitness are just some of the ways we help youth focus on their well-being and feel connected to each other. Our support for youth doesn't end them they graduate from the program; we offer a weekly virtual alumni support group, check-ins from our YSS Recovery Advocate, and scholarships to pursue higher education. Treatment Works. Recovery is Possible.
Our CEO, Andrew Allen, is a graduate from the YSS Residential Addiction Treatment program, so he knows firsthand the importance and effectiveness of the program. He is proud of his journey, and he is deeply committed to the organization that saved his life. Our counselors have decades of experience in the field; they are dedicated to helping each and every youth reach their highest and best potential. We walk alongside youth, cheer them on, and empower them to overcome life's challenges. We also ensure youth have stable support systems after graduating from the program. Throughout the year, our Strengthening Family Weekends allow current residents and their family members to come together for trainings, meals, and games. We teach parents how to support their kids through bonding, setting boundaries, and monitoring. Furthermore, we continue to provide support and check on youth after they leave our program. YSS's Residential Addiction Treatment Program has helped nearly 5,000 youth across Iowa. We know treatment works and recovery is possible. YSS exists to provide hope and opportunity, and we know you will feel the difference when you come to us. Call or Email YSS now for a free 15 minute consultation - (515) 361-7857
