At Sheboygan Comprehensive Treatment Center (CTC), we offer personalized outpatient care for adults age 18 and older who have been struggling with opioid addictions.
Sheboygan CTC aims to offer patients a comprehensive treatment experience that sets the stage for ongoing success in recovery. At the heart of this approach is a patient’s individualized treatment plan. Typically, the patient experience at our CTC begins with a thorough assessment. We will work to assess your individual needs and create a treatment plan that can support them. We will also evaluate your health, history of drug use, and current drug use to determine the medication that may be most appropriate for you. While medication will form an important part of your treatment plan, your participation in our individual and group therapies can also be crucial for your recovery. In individual counseling, you can confidentially process your experiences and receive feedback and guidance from a qualified professional. In group therapy, you may learn new skills and exchange support with other people who are receiving MAT, which can help you feel more empowered and less alone in your journey.

MAT is designed to help people who are struggling with addictions to heroin, prescription painkillers, and other opioids.
If you have an addiction to opioids and are seeking help, you can call our admissions team to schedule an initial appointment. When you arrive at our treatment center, you will undergo a comprehensive assessment, a urine drug screen, and a medical screening as part of the intake process. Based on the assessment results, you may receive a prescription for methadone, buprenorphine, Suboxone, or Vivitrol. As you progress through treatment, members of our medical staff will monitor your progress and may adjust your medication and dosage as needed. These medications are effective treatments for opioid use disorder, but medication alone cannot address the complex emotional and behavioral aspects of addiction. MAT also includes individual and group counseling sessions so that people can learn healthy coping skills and tools for lasting recovery. These therapy sessions can help you find a support network, gain valuable insights into personal triggers, and learn how to live a healthier, happier life.

MAT is a form of outpatient treatment that can help those who have an addiction to heroin, prescription painkillers, or other opioids.
At 10th Street Comprehensive Treatment Center, the treatment process begins with an assessment to gather information about a person’s medical history, current drug use, and goals for treatment. They are then given a medical evaluation to determine which prescription medication will best meet their needs. Once the individual is admitted to the program, their treatment team will prescribe methadone, buprenorphine, Suboxone, or naltrexone, depending on the results of their evaluation. All medications used in MAT have received approval from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and have proved to be safe and effective when administered and monitored by a healthcare professional. After receiving their prescription, each person will be provided with a customized therapeutic schedule, which may include individual and group counseling sessions, based on their unique concerns and treatment goals. 10th Street CTC also offers aftercare planning to detail the next steps in the recovery process and to ensure lasting wellness.

What is the best therapy for addiction?
Addiction treatment will be tailored to the individual. People seeking help for addiction—whether with a psychotherapist, in an outpatient clinic, or in a residential program—should expect to engage in multiple types of treatments, sometimes including medication. For anyone recovering from addiction, avoiding situations in which one has typically used a substance is essential, as is the support of close connections. Since substance use disorders tend to co-occur with underlying mental health conditions such as anxiety or depression, those must also be addressed as part of any recovery plan.

How long does therapy for addiction take?
There is no set timeline for recovery from addiction. Patients and their families should expect the work to last several months, if not longer. Residential treatment programs may be based on a stay of 30, 60, or 90 days, with continuing work after release, but only about 1 percent of people are treated in such facilities. Ceasing use is just the first step; therapy to help maintain abstinence and effect behavior change must follow. The process of recovery, neuroscience has shown, involves brain cells recovering the capacity to respond to natural sources of reward and restore control over the impulse to use. Another definition of recovery is restoring voluntary control over one’s substance use and retaking all of one’s previous responsibilities.

How effective is drug addiction treatment?
Substance use disorders are treatable and remission is achievable for many who seek recovery; by some estimates, more than three-quarters of people who become addicted to alcohol or drugs recover. But that success rarely occurs quickly or on a set timeline; relapse is not only common, but many therapists and clinicians view it as a normal part of the process—not always a sign that a person has returned to addiction, but a signal that their treatment should be adjusted to help them regain control. Overall, research suggests, five years after the end of substance use, one’s risk of relapse is no greater than that of others who had not faced addiction. Other experts believe that complete abstinence is not the only measure of recovery, and that, through effective treatment, many people can learn to control their use.

How can you get addiction treatment for someone?
The most important factor in recovery from addiction is widely understood to be an individual’s commitment to change. For that reason,“interventions” in which friends and family gather to urge or force someone to begin immediate treatment often backfire; even when such efforts do lead someone to begin treatment, they may be less likely to stay than those who are self-driven. Still, family members can play an important role in supporting an individual who seeks help and can take part in family therapy as one element of a loved one’s treatment.
