Medication-assisted treatment, or MAT, can be an extremely beneficial form of care for adults who have developed opioid addictions. MAT, which combines prescription medication and counseling, has been closely studied in the United States for several decades. Through the years, it has proved to be a safe and effective means of helping people end their opioid use and achieve long-term recovery. The prescription medications that are approved for use in MAT programs can ease the drug cravings and other symptoms that are characteristic of opioid withdrawal. When a person takes a prescription medication as directed by a qualified physician in the context of a MAT program, they may find it much easier to stop using opioids. Some people take these medications for a relatively short period of time and then taper their use under a doctor’s supervision. Others continue to use prescription medications for months or years. At Life Center of Hillsville, we offer a premier partial hospitalization program (PHP) for men who are in need of structured care for substance use disorders and certain co-occurring mental health concerns, like anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, and posttraumatic stress disorder. Our PHP is available as either a step-down level of care from inpatient or residential treatment or as a stand-alone treatment option. While the length of programming may vary, the average length of stay in this program is 10-21 days. Patients in our PHP can take part in an array of therapeutic interventions, including cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, motivational interviewing, 12-Step programming, journaling, and leisure and recreational activities. Each patient receives an individualized care plan that outlines the therapies and services they’ll participate in.

Cross Keys Equine Therapy provides equine-assisted services to individuals, couples, families and groups, which is separated into Trauma-Focused Equine Assisted Psychotherapy (TF-EAP) and Trauma-Informed Equine Assisted Learning (TI-EAL). We help our clients take ownership of truths in their lives by allowing horses to teach them how to be authentic, and present; how to seek open and honest communication with others; and how to take care of themselves by giving and receiving trust and respect.
