About

About UCSD CHEAR

UCSD Center for Healthy Eating and Activity Research (CHEAR) offers individualized, unique, and evidence-based programs that integrate neurobiology, cognitive, biological, emotional, social and environmental contributors to treat a variety of eating behaviors. At CHEAR we are developing new cutting-edge treatments, that are based on training your brain and your body to resist binge eating and overeating. Our clinical programs utilize neurobiological mechanisms to develop control over eating, including teaching participants to resist eating foods when physically full (resist cravings), to understand and detect hunger and fullness, to pay less attention to food and to train you to physically and psychologically resist unhealthy foods. We also utilize evidence-based treatments including Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness, Family-Based Therapy, and Behavioral Weight Loss. Our caring, experienced professionals are highly trained in the treatment of binge eating disorder and obesity, as well as anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa. Our binge eating and weight loss no-cost research studies for adults and youth are also available.

Binge Eating Disorder Program

Our newest program is our Intensive Outpatient Program which targets binge eating and weight. This intensive program utilizes novel cutting-edge therapies and evidence-based treatments to create a tailored program to help you overcome destructive eating patterns and underlying self-defeating beliefs. Treatment includes therapy groups, weekly individual and family therapy, weekly appointments with a dietician, hunger and craving training, meal coaching, fitness training, and consultation with psychiatry.

Additional Binge Eating Support

UCSD CHEAR also offers a weekly Binge Eating Disorder group for adults. The 16-week adult group meets on Thursdays from 5:30 - 6:30PM. In addition, CHEAR offers an Emotional Eating group for teens and their parents. This 16-week group meets on Thursdays from 6:30-7:30 PM. Our binge eating and weight loss no-cost research studies for adults and youth are also available.
