Detoxification, which is commonly referred to as detox, is a safe way to eliminate alcohol, opioids, and other addictive drugs from a person’s body. At TrustPoint Hospital in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, we offer both medical and nonmedical detox services. Detox can be an essential step on a person’s path to recovery. When a person develops an addiction to certain substances and they then try to stop using these substances, they may experience considerable physical and psychological pain. This is known as withdrawal. In some cases, withdrawal can be extremely dangerous or even deadly. But when a person starts their recovery journey in a detox program, they can get through withdrawal safely and with minimal discomfort. People who participate in detox at our hospital benefit from 24-hour care provided by a team that may include physicians, registered nurses, and other treatment providers. Depending on the nature and severity of their struggles with addiction, people in our detox program may receive therapeutic support, prescription medications to ease discomfort, and other services as needed. Typical length of stay in our detox program is five to seven days.

What to Expect

Each person who participates in detox at TrustPoint Hospital has a unique experience based on a variety of personal factors. But everyone who receives care in our detox program can benefit from certain fundamental features of our program. First, the moment a new patient arrives at our facility, they are in a safe place where they will be cared for by a team of compassionate professionals. It’s common for people to be concerned about how difficult withdrawal will be, so we take great care to explain the detox process, answer any questions the patient may have, and assure them that they will benefit from round-the-clock support. Patients can also expect to be in the environment that is best equipped to meet their needs. For example, depending on the intensity of their withdrawal symptoms, patients may receive detox services in either a medical or a behavioral health unit. Finally, once a patient has successfully completed detox, they can transition directly to the next phase of their treatment without leaving our hospital. This can minimize their risk for immediate relapse and help them build a stronger foundation for recovery.

We have developed an efficient, stress-free admissions process that is designed to get people into detox with minimal delay. We understand that once a person has decided to take this step, it is important to act quickly. For this reason, a member of our team is available 24/7 to answer any questions about detox, our admissions process, or any other service at TrustPoint Hospital. Prospective patients may even be able to start the admissions process during this first phone call. We also offer in-person admissions assessments either by appointment or on a walk-in basis anytime, day or night. Once a member of our admissions staff has collected some basic information about the prospective patient, a physician will review the material to determine if our hospital is the ideal placement and to identify which treatment services are most appropriate. Once the admission request has been approved, we can coordinate directly with the patient’s insurance provider to confirm coverage, and then schedule their admission date for our detox program.
