Adult Intensive Outpatient Program
The intensive outpatient program (IOP) at TrustPoint Hospital in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, serves adults age 18 and older who have anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, or other mental health concerns. Group therapy is the main method of treatment in our IOP. A typical treatment day includes multiple groups, all of which are led by licensed therapists. Groups focus on a variety of topics, such as anger management, communication skills, stress management, healthy boundaries, grief and loss, and disease/disorder education. We also offer experiential therapy groups, which may include yoga, meditation, music therapy, aromatherapy, and role-playing. Patients who have been experiencing symptoms that can be treated with prescription medication may also receive medication management services while they are in our IOP. The standard schedule for this level of care includes three hours of treatment three days per week, for a total of nine weekly hours of care. Typical length of stay in the IOP at TrustPoint Hospital is eight to 12 weeks. Treatment Approach
At TrustPoint Hospital, our approach to treatment at the IOP level is guided by our commitment to providing personalized treatment and comprehensive support. Our patients complete thorough assessments so that we can identify the full scope of their needs, and they receive individualized plans to help them achieve their immediate and long-term goals. Within the context of group therapy sessions, we incorporate a variety of treatment modalities, including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and solution-focused therapy. The benefits of these evidence-based modalities include helping patients replace unhealthy thought and behavior patterns with more beneficial ways of thinking and acting. They also promote the development of important skills, such as mindfulness, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness. In the limited amount of time patients participate in IOP sessions, we work diligently to assist them in developing the capabilities that will help them long after they have transitioned out of our care. What to Expect
When a person begins treatment at the IOP level, they can expect to be in a safe and supportive place where they are treated with respect. At TrustPoint Hospital, we understand that people who develop mental health disorders often unfortunately also struggle with challenges such as shame, guilt, and poor self-esteem. We make a concerted effort to dispel these negative emotions and help each person recognize and appreciate their inherent value. We do not define our patients by the symptoms they are experiencing, nor do we believe that their future growth is limited by their past struggles. Adults who take part in our IOP can also discover the power of shared support. In addition to benefiting from the guidance of our treatment professionals, IOP patients may also form mutually beneficial relationships with other adults who are working toward similar goals. This can help break down the sense of isolation that often accompanies mental illness, and it also demonstrates the value of developing an effective personal support network.
