Who We Treat in our PHP, IOP, and OP programs
When our emotional life is out of balance or unregulated we often find ourselves repeating patterns that become self-defeating. These self-defeating patterns can leave us feeling anxious, unsatisfied, or depressed, and often lead to low self-esteem. We may feel shame, the feeling that something is deeply wrong with me or that I am defective, different, or not good enough. When these emotions are untreated we may isolate or seek relationships hoping they will make us better. We have found that generally when a person experiences different types of trauma, distress and dysregulation caused by trauma can lead to other manifestations of the pain including addiction, depression, anxiety, self-harm, and attachment difficulties. We may compulsively eat, use drugs or alcohol, spend, or over work. We may find we walk through life always ready for the other shoe to drop, full of tension and anxiety or even experiencing panic attacks. The expertise of the Trauma and Beyond ® treatment team, allows us to provide support to our clients to explore and work through these self-defeating and survival based patterns. Working in the 3 stage Trauma Model we support clients on their trauma journey by first creating safety, stability, and helping clients develop neuronal pathways of internal positive resources. We move to trauma reprocessing that doesn't re-traumatize or create a reliving of the trauma in the second stage. And in the 3rd stage we work with clients to find the "beyond" the space of integration of mind, body, and emotion, a place of nervous system and affect regulation. We work with clients to identify and deepen their aliveness, their joy, their connections and intimacy with something beyond themselves. How We Can Help
Dr. Joanne Barron and Dr. Lynne Friedman-Gell started Trauma and Beyond Psychological Center (R) out of a desire to help clients move beyond symptom reduction and into a life that is not controlled by symptoms. Another meaning of "Beyond" has to do with our belief that trauma is the root cause of many other psychological problems. Our therapists are highly trained in treating trauma, substance abuse, addictions and mental health disorders such as mood and anxiety disorders, relational issues, codependency, sex and love addiction and other process addictions. Groups
contact Trauma and Beyond for group information
Groups at Trauma and Beyond (R) will be centered in supporting clients on their journey of healing. Therapists with specialized skills will provide a space for clients to learn about trauma, the nervous system, and the connection between mind, body, and emotions. Clients will be able to learn about the effects of trauma on developmental capacity and how to strengthen and expand their window of tolerance. Clients will be provided psychoeducation and real-time practice in mindfulness, somatic experiencing, yoga, art therapy, and resource building skills in order to support development and growing capacity for empowerment, self soothing, and regulation.
