About The Beachcomber

Since opening in 1976, The Beachcomber has combined the structure and discipline of a therapeutic program with the support of a small, intimate and sober community. In this unique environment, 16 residents interact with five therapists whose combined experience totals over 125 years in professional care. In the words of founder, James A. Bryan, "Hope and fulfillment begin to replace emotions such as fear, anger and loneliness in the individual as well as the frustration and hidden suffering of family and loved ones." Change has always been a major goal as thousands of men and women begin sobriety at our treatment center. And as we begin our fourth decade in operation we are more certain than ever we are accomplishing what our founder set out to do. Located just 305 paces from an uncrowded beach on the Atlantic Dunes, we are the oldest continuously operated private substance abuse facility in the state of Florida.

The Beachcomber Rehabilitation Center in Delray Beach is accredited by The Joint Commission of Accreditation of Health Care Organizations. The Beachcomber has been continuously accredited by The Joint Commission since 1978.

Residential Treatment Program

The Beachcomber specializes in the holistic treatment of alcoholism, substance or drug abuse and chemical dependency in an intimate seaside environment limited to 16 residents at a time. This holistic approach utilizes traditional treatments for addiction, as well as Yoga, Acupuncture, Rapid Resolution Trauma Therapy, Emotional Freedom Techniques Therapy (EFT). The emphasis of treatment at The Beachcomber is on personal contact. Our therapists provide our patients with focused attention. There are approximately seven hours of therapy per day, seven days a week. This includes group therapy daily, as well as seminars ranging in topics such as the disease concept of addiction, sexual dysfunction, relapse prevention and interpersonal relations. In addition, there are two scheduled individual sessions weekly, plus the casual therapy which goes on in a continuous manner throughout our family-like setting. The impact of alcoholism and addiction on spirit, the spiritual, is often difficult to understand and confront. Patient spirituality is treated as a clear component of recovery. Our ratio of one Counselor-Therapist on staff to every three residents insures prompt professional attention to individual needs and priorities. All meals are planned and prepared by The Beachcomber's cuisine staff and are served in family style dining. Special dietary needs are accommodated.
