With Dr. Kim Dennis at the helm, we treat co-occurring substance use disorders and eating disorders combined with mood disorders, personality disorders, PTSD and trauma. Trauma lies at the heart of many of the self-destructive behaviors we see. Treating the medical, environmental, and behavioral aspects of these diseases is what we do best. We Are Guided By an Integrated Treatment Approach
Our approach is to provide continuous care treatment options through medication management, outpatient groups, individual psychotherapy, family education, and community connections. We strive to decrease or eliminate relapse that results in readmission to treatment by creating a robust web of treatment providers and services at SunCloud and in your community. We work with our patients to create and adapt an individualized, continuous care plan based on their ongoing needs and treatment goals. We use evidenced based treatment that has proven through data, trials, and experience to be effective in aiding our patients in recovery. This includes 12-step facilitation, ACT, DBT, Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), DBT-PE, and Cognitive Processing Therapy. We also use treatments at the forefront of clinical interest including: Somatic Experiencing, expressive therapies, family education, and mindfulness based relapse prevention. Behavioral approaches are held contextually and services are circled around the patient to offer a balance of skills and process orientated therapies. We support the use of Medication Assisted Therapy (MAT) in specific clinical circumstances. About Dr. Kim
Dr. Kim Dennis is a board-certified psychiatrist who specializes in treating addictions and eating disorders. She has treated addiction, mood disorders, trauma, substance abuse, and eating disorders for over 10 years. She maintains a holistic perspective in the practice of psychiatry by incorporating biological, psycho-social, and spiritual approaches into the individually-tailored treatment programs for each patient. Dr. Kim obtained her medical degree from University of Chicago's Pritzker School of Medicine and completed her psychiatry residency training at the University of Chicago Hospitals as chief resident. During her training, she was part of the multi-disciplinary eating disorders team specializing in treating adolescents and their families. She is a member of the AMA, Academy for Eating Disorders, American Academy of Addiction Psychiatry, and American Society for Addiction Medicine. She is also on the editorial board of Eating Disorders: the Journal of Treatment and Prevention. Dr. Kim contributes regularly to news organizations and professional magazines.
