About

Youth Transitional Living Center

Serenity Mesa Recovery Center (SM) provides transitional living services for youth ages 14 to 21 who are struggling with an addiction to drugs and/or alcohol and may have a co-occurring disorder. Serenity Mesa is owned and operated by a nonprofit organization, Healing Addiction in Our Community (HAC). HAC was formed in April of 2010 by a group of concerned parents and grandparents who wanted to raise awareness and provide education about the opiate epidemic affecting the state of NM and its youth. Since that time, we opened SM and we provide long-term living and therapy for young people who struggle with addiction – something that was very hard to find for our children. SM is a sober living facility that provides a continuum of care by offering long-term (90+ days) living for residents who have completed a detox/residential treatment program and are ready for the next phase of their recovery. Our care includes housing, individual, group and family therapy, life skills, education (high school and college), job placement and job training, education on living a healthy lifestyle, community engagement and service.

Program Goals: Our program goals focus on activities and therapies that will help our residents sustain sobriety and re-enter their communities as strong, independent members. Residents who stay at least 90 days should be equipped with the knowledge and skills needed to be able to live a drug-free, independent life. We will help them develop a sense of meaning and purpose that they may not have had before – a fresh new start at life. We will work with each resident to help him or her establish a recovery plan that is customized to their own needs utilizing services at the facility as well as working with partners in the community. We will use evidence-based approaches for treatment planning. Family is a critical aspect of recovery as addiction is a family disease. The program provides extensive family therapy that is recurring and ongoing so there is ample time for residents and their family members to work on understanding one another and work on repairing damage that has been done by both parties.
