Our Philosophy

Second Nature Counseling was founded to address the need for counseling services in the community. Our founder, Steven DiMarzo, LMHC, recognized the challenges facing those who were seeking counseling. Whether limited availability or inaccessibility, finding the right counselor was almost impossible. Our goal is to be as accessible and approachable as possible. We have worked with clients who have struggled with all areas of life. Our experiences are different but our personal philosophies are the same; mental wellness is important and good mental health is necessary for success in life. We are dedicated to enhancing the lives of those who have taken the leap to realize their potential. Counselors on our team provide counseling services to address many areas of life, including anxiety, depression, changes in living environments, and stress from work and school. Expanding the focus to the whole person, rather than a diagnosis, allows for a more comprehensive approach to improving mental wellness. Utilizing the wellness model in counseling allows us to conceive an individual approach that favors client-driven treatment.

Who We Are - We are people, too, just like you

Life comes with many challenges and obstacles that may seem impossible to overcome. We all have an innate need to succeed and prove ourselves as worthy and deserving of good. There may be times when we feel overwhelmed, self-conscious, or inadequate and we don't want to be a burden to others, so we don't ask for help. It's at these times when we need that support most. The truth is, we all face these challenges and with some self-reflection, mental energy, and focus, we can overcome those barriers and develop skills to help ourselves that become second nature. Just like you, we have had our struggles in life. We have been challenged by what seemed to be impossible to overcome. We are not experts on your life but we can relate to the feelings and thoughts you may be having. Our varied experience as therapists, substance use counselors, child play therapists, specialists in developmental disabilities, Christian counselors, trauma professionals and others has allowed us to develop skills that we use to guide our clients through their personal exploration. We dedicate our work to helping others find stability and strength in their lives. Our team hope to help you achieve your success.

We prohibit any discrimination or harassment based on race, color, creed, religion, sex, gender, national origin, citizenship, ethnicity, marital status, age, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression, veteran status, or any other status protected by applicable law to the extent prohibited by law. We strive to provide an atmosphere of respect, dignity, acceptance and safety for all clients. Furthermore, no client will be discriminated against based on referral source.
