About

Sanford House at John Street

Founded in 2015, Sanford Behavioral Health is licensed and accredited as a substance use disorder, eating disorder, and co-occurring mental health treatment facility, serving the state of Michigan and beyond. Each of Sanford’s five facilities in Greater Grand Rapids, is carefully crafted to create a welcoming and comforting environment. Sanford is led by a growing team of medical, clinical, and support personnel providing medication-assisted, evidenced-based treatment to residential, outpatient and telehealth patients. Sanford House at John Street is a residential facility for adult men (18 and older). The male gendered counterpart to Cherry Street for Women, John Street offers 24/7 structured living. We provide detox, clinical programming, medical management, medication-assisted treatment (MAT), and male gendered therapeutic approaches. There are 20 beds for residential treatment. We back all our programs with science-based practices, wellness activities and a private chef. Individual, group, and family therapy, full continuum of care with long-term support. Detox Residential, Day Programs, Intensive Outpatient, Outpatient - in-person and telehealth options.

Residential Treatment for Men

Sanford House at John Street accommodates 20 men in a naturally private location. Residential patients live at a Sanford facility while they attend group, individual, and family therapy sessions, receive medical and psychiatric check-ups, and participate in wellness activities. This option provides 24/7 access to the support of our medical team. Our medical services are led by Gilbert Masterson, M. D. with 24 hour/day support for all residential patients. All levels of care include on-site supervision by medical doctors with specialties in psychiatry and/or addictionology, advance practice providers, registered nurses and registered dietitians. Our secure surroundings allow men to feel comfortable while sharing their personal history in both group and individual settings. The family is welcomed and involved in the process through our comprehensive Family Program. Sanford House at Cherry Street provides the same excellence in treatment in a gender-specific environment for women. We are able to accommodate 10 women at the Cherry Street location. Sanford Outpatient Center uses psychosocial/behavioral therapies and pharmacotherapy to treat alcohol and/or opioid use disorders.
