About Resource Treatment Center

Located in a historic neighborhood in Indianapolis, Indiana, Resource Treatment Center is a residential program for children, adolescents, teenagers, and young adults (males and females, ages 8 to 21) who are struggling with emotional, behavioral, developmental, and psychiatric challenges. The program provides a structured secure environment for young clients who require an intensive therapeutic milieu. Resource Treatment Center specializes in caring for young people who have exhibited maladaptive behaviors or psychiatric concerns, including inappropriate conduct, oppositional defiant disorder (ODD), impulsivity, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), mood disorders, and sexual reactivity. Resource Treatment Center offers a program for male clients ages 12 to 20 who have developmental delays and behavioral problems. The primary objective of treatment at Resource Treatment Center is to help all clients achieve the emotional, behavioral, and psychiatric stability that will allow them to successfully reintegrate back into their families, schools, and communities.

Signs and Symptoms of Substance Abuse

Substance abuse is a broad category that encompasses the misuse of alcohol and other drugs (both legal and illegal) either in one episode or over an extended period of time. Common forms of substance abuse among adolescents and teenagers include drinking alcohol, smoking marijuana, and using prescription or over-the-counter medications for recreational or other non-medically approved purposes. Some young people engage in substance abuse in a misguided attempt to alleviate symptoms associated with mental health or behavioral issues such as depression, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), or similar conditions. In other cases, alcohol and/or drugs are abused for purely recreational consciousness-altering purposes - in other words, just to get drunk, stoned, or high. Regardless of why a person engages in substance abuse, however, the behavior puts him or her at increased risk for short- and long-term damage to his or her physical, psychological, emotional, and cognitive wellbeing.

Treatment Options at Resource Treatment Center

Depending upon the unique abilities and needs of each Resource Treatment Center client, residential care can occur in either the Residential Treatment Center (RTC) or the Psychiatric Residential Treatment Facility (PRTF). The RTC is designed for clients between the ages of 8 and 21 who have an IQ score of 70 or above and who have been exhibiting emotional and/or behavioral impairments that require a structured setting in order to successfully heal. RTC clients progress through four treatment phases and complete an in-house schooling program that is accredited by the Indianapolis Public School System. Individual, group, and family therapy in the RTC includes cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), motivational interviewing, and the matrix model for addressing chemical dependency concerns. In the PRTF, young people with more severe mental health needs complete more intensive types of therapy and accredited academics within a more structured and secure environment. PRTF clients may also receive medication management services, crisis intervention services, and vision and dental services as deemed both necessary and appropriate.
