Akua Strong San Diego provides Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) and Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) that caters to individuals with substance use disorder, mental health disorder, or co-occurring disorders. Akua Strong provides each client with the structure, accountability, and community they need for successful recovery, with the flexibility and comfort of staying in their own homes or supportive housing. It's no secret that women and men become addicted for different reasons, experience their addiction in their own way and have issues that are unique to each gender. For this reason, AKUA has developed a program designed specifically for their needs of women. Men and women are very similar in one aspect: both genders experience better treatment outcomes when they are in a unisex group. Though there are many reasons for this, the primary cause is our client's comfort. Women are just more comfortable opening up when they are with a group of other women.
