We're here for you and happy to serve! What can I expect from my first session?
The first session will be a chance for your clinician to get to know you and a great opportunity for you to ask questions of your clinician regarding training, experience, counseling style and expectations. Therapy is collaborative and relationship based and a therapist's job at this first session, called the intake, is to let you know about the counseling process, collect information from you to start the assessment process and ask clarifying questions to get to the roots of what's brought you in for therapy. Together, you and your therapist will make a plan for what goals you want to cover and what changes you'd like to make in your life. How long does counseling last?
Depending on the clinician, counseling can be anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour and may fluctuate as needs change throughout the counseling relationship. Client see counselors sometimes through acutely difficult periods of life that may only last weeks or could do long-term work over months or even years.
