Petoskey Center - Intensive Outpatient Program's Groups
Intensive Outpatient Program - Mental Health focus
The intensive outpatient program often helps patients clarify their treatment needs and serves as a catalyst for moving forward in treatment. The program runs in six week cycles and meets on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday mornings. The IOP integrates mentalization-based therapy, dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) skills training, psychodynamic psychotherapy, and family dynamics in order to help patients (1) increase healthy coping, (2) improve their understanding of their emotions, sense of self, and relationships, and (3) help identify a clearer path for their short and long term goals.
Interpersonal Process Group: Mixed Gender + Women'
We offer a Monday (7-8:10pm) Evening Mixed Gender interpersonal process group and a Tuesday (6:30-7:40pm) Women's-only Interpersonal Process Group. Both groups provide participants with the opportunity to 1) learn more about the way they function in the context of relationships, 2) practice new ways of engaging with others, and 3) explore important events in their lives within a supportive yet challenging therapeutic space. Participants have a opportunity to practice new skills and work to generalize their new skills and increased confidence/self-awareness in the real world.
Topics in Treatment - Interactive Discussion Group
This group invites participants to bring in issues/topics that are impacting their sense of self, their relationships, and their ability to thrive in their worlds. The group then explores these topics through discussion, learning applicable skills, and sharing personal experiences in a safe and supportive atmosphere. Topics previously discussed: Understanding avoidance-Finding alternative ways of coping -- Struggles with independence and learning to know/trust one's self -- Defining life goals and figuring out how to take steps to create the life you want -- Understanding Depression -- Understanding the difference between Panic attacks and Intense emotion: Why does it matter?
