Who We Are

Newport Academy is a different kind of teen treatment center. Our philosophy of care is grounded in addressing the root causes of destructive behaviors—the trauma, depression, anxiety, abandonment wounds, and lack of self-esteem that catalyze co-occurring disorders. Our integrated approach guides teens and their families to achieve long-term, sustainable healing from mental health conditions as well as substance abuse, eating disorders, self-harm, and other maladaptive behaviors. Based in clinical expertise and compassionate care, our whole-person treatment model takes into account the physical, psychological, social, educational, and spiritual needs of adolescents. We support young people ages 12 and up in building authentic connection with self; restoring harmony in the family system; and developing supportive relationships with peers. Our team includes psychiatrists, psychologists, therapists, nurse practitioners, counselors, equine therapists, art therapists, music therapists, adventure therapists, registered dietitians, nutritionists, teachers, and more, with a wide range of degrees and experience. Our mission is to empower teens and restore

What We Do

Our gender-specific treatment programs begin with a comprehensive assessment that informs the creation of a tailored treatment plan. Each teen’s customized plan incorporates clinical, experiential, and holistic modalities. Our clients’ weekly schedules include individual and group therapy, utilizing modalities including Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. Our approach recognizes that the family is an essential part of the healing process, and we use Attachment-Based Family Therapy to repair parent-child relationships and restore family harmony. In experiential therapy, including art, music, Adventure Therapy, Equine-Assisted Therapy, mixed martial arts, and more, teens process emotions and memories through doing, feeling, and relating—not just thinking and talking. Adventure Therapy, which takes place in beautiful outdoor settings throughout southern California, is a cornerstone of our experiential offerings. Residents also spend structured time in the classroom each day, and with tutors as necessary, so they can continue to make academic progress during treatment.

Solutions Focused, Outcomes Driven

At Newport Academy, we prioritize ongoing measurement of the efficacy of our evidence-based treatment. We maintain the highest possible standards for our services, and commission third-party evaluations of our programming, measuring a variety of treatment goals. By consistently gathering and analyzing data related to our outcomes, we’re able to make more strategic and tailored decisions for our patients. Data collected on our programs using industry-accepted assessment tools shows consistent positive outcomes in measures of well-being, depression, and anxiety, with patients’ improvements, on average, exceeding levels of clinical significance during and after treatment. We employ the most experienced and caring behavioral health professionals, who are aligned with our mission. We seek out clinical professionals who are experts in providing integrated care, and ensure that our patients have the comprehensive support needed for whole-person healing. Across our full continuum of care, we offer a blend of evidence-based modalities and experiential therapies that address the medical and life needs of our patients.
