Specializing in Primary Mental Health

OPI Intensive Program specializes in treating clinically complex clients including those with Borderline Personality Disorder. Our program is Joint Commission-Accredited. OPI is a leading therapeutic transitional living program for young adults 17-28 years old. Our Intensive Program is a comprehensive, highly structured program that addresses the issues that are holding young adults back, and instills the skills and habits to launch lives forward. Located just outside of Los Angeles, our location offers a plethora of opportunities for participants to practice their new skills and gain real successes as they move towards independence. Our participant population is inclusive of men, women and transgender young adults.

Reinforcing DBT Skills in Real World Situations

Established specifically for young adults with Borderline Traits, Borderline Personality Disorder, and or co-occurring conditions, we offer a high level of individualized care. Staffing is at a 1:2 ratio, and each participant has his or her own support team, including a psychiatrist and therapist. The Intensive Program begins with a thirty-day Immersion Phase focusing on regulating emotions and creating new skillful habits. Participants work closely with an overseeing therapist/case manager, who remains the point person for each family. This first phase includes intensive DBT skills groups. Mindfulness techniques, psychiatric evaluations and medication management as needed. It also offers specialized treatments for co-occurring conditions such as Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, eating disorders, and substance abuse. A longer Integration Phase follows, allowing participants to practice their new skills and integrate them into "real world" situations. Under the supervision of the lead therapist, each participant meets with a life coach and the OPI Departments of Education, Career, Volunteer, and Extra Curricular Activities. This team collaborates with the participant to create a customized set of activities and excursions that matches the goals, interests, and developmental needs of each participant.

DBT Skills for Lasting Independence

While the OPI Intensive program was initially created to treat those with Borderline Personality Disorder, OPI quickly realized the benefit of utilizing the structure and skill set to support those on the Autism Spectrum. It is common for those on the spectrum to have difficulty regulating emotions, tolerating distress and engaging in effective interpersonal relationships and interactions. Immersing these young adults in DBT skills allows them to utilize a more concrete approach and skill set to work towards more effective ways of engaging and interacting in the world. Once integrated the young adult receives a life coach who will incorporate the DBT skills, while also focusing on basic independent living skills including time management, organizational skills, socialization, routines of healthy living (health, nutrition, time management, etc.), budgeting/finances and more. OPI helps participants regulate their emotions and encourages them to find joy and explore living a "life worth living." OPI teaches participants to apply DBT in their day-to-day lives as they move forward, creating small successes that lead to big changes. New habits are reinforced as participants make leaps along their paths to living lives of true meaning.
