The Newport Academy philosophy of care recognizes teen behavioral issues, such as substance abuse, eating disorders, and other co-occurring disorders, as symptoms of underlying mental health challenges, most often trauma, depression, and/or anxiety. In order for teens and families to achieve long-term, sustainable healing, treatment must address these root causes through integrated, comprehensive care that involves the entire family in the healing process. Our solutions-driven, outcomes-based approach is founded in compassion, expertise, and unconditional love. We nurture every aspect of a teen ’s well-being, addressing their physical, psychological, social, educational, and spiritual needs so they can thrive when they return home and as they take the next steps toward young adulthood. Our mission to empower teens and restore families. To that end, we track a number of different treatment goals and commission rigorous third-party evaluations of our programming. Data on our outcomes shows consistent positive results in measures of well-being, depression, and anxiety, with patients’ improvements, on average, exceeding levels of clinical significance during and after treatment.

For pre- teen , teen , and young adult girls and boys struggling with school refusal, anxiety, depression, substance abuse, suicidal ideation, and other mental health issues, the earlier they are diagnosed the more effective treatment can be.
Embark Behavioral Health operates an exceptional network of treatment and therapy programs across the United States. We specialize in preteens, teens, and young adults, struggling with anxiety, depression, and other mental health and substance abuse issues. Our programs include in-home treatment, virtual coaching and counseling, outpatient clinics, wilderness therapy, short-term residential programs, long-term residential treatment, therapeutic boarding schools, and young adult transitional living options. Mental health problems are common among youth and can make things like school, socializing, work and everyday life more difficult. In fact, one in five adolescents, ages 12-18, live with a mental health condition; and between 20-30% will have one major depressive episode before they reach adulthood. Half of all lifetime cases of mental disorders will first present by age 14 and 75% will present by age 24. This is why it is a critical time to find expert help and address issues.

Karen Horney Clinic
Treatment Center
The Clinic reflects Karen Horney's optimistic and humanistic philosophy that individuals have the capacity to grow and change throughout life. Along with society and culture, intimate relationships with others are the most important influences on our personal development. Difficulties in life often arise when early relationships provoke anxiety or adversity, which in turn interferes with our growth. Dr. Horney was convinced that treatment geared at understanding the self, and the subsequent outgrowth of such difficulties, would restore a person to a path of personal self-realization. This basic philosophy is the guiding principle of all Clinic services. It is the foundation from which patients gain an understanding of themselves, develop the capacity to grow and change, and enrich their lives. The staff of the Clinic conducts treatment with the underlying conviction that each person has the inherent capacity to improve one's life and become increasingly warm, spontaneous, joyful, and unafraid.

Under the leadership of Dr. Igor Galynker and Dr. Konstantin Nikiforov, the Galynker Family Center for Bipolar Disorder is a unique partnership of mental health professionals who are deeply committed to delivering effective care within a family-oriented therapeutic space that replaces silence and red tape with effective communication and hands-on care. We are an innovative New York City center with a seasoned team of clinicians who have decades of combined experience treating complex patients often regarded as “treatment-resistant”. Our expertise is in the management of treatment-resistant patients and acute illness episodes. Historically, and for far too long, silence has been the norm between mental health clinicians and their patients’ families. Our Center is working to change this dynamic by facilitating open communication and by providing holistic, integrated treatment for our patients and their families.

Teen Treatment Centers

What does therapy for teenagers look like?

When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.

How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?

There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.

How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.

How do you prepare teens for therapy?

You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.

Rehab in New York

Clients who are looking for Drug Rehab in New York or Alcohol Rehab in New York can find help at a treatment center. The first step towards recovery usually requires clients to detox in New York under medical supervision, and follow-up with a period of intensive therapy at the center.

INPATIENT or OUTPATIENT?

Residential inpatient treatment in New York consists of 24-hour care at a live-in facility. Full treatment services, including medical and behavioral therapy, are provided all at one location.

Outpatient treatment programs in New York provide flexibility to those who are unable to take time away from their regular lives, work or school. Programs typically meet at the clinic a couple of times every week for a few hours at a time.

Certain programs provide a combination of the in/out approach: Inpatient for medical stabilization, partial hospitalization for moderate cases, intensive outpatient programs, and outpatient clinics for follow-up. For instance, opiate abusers may find it helpful to begin their abstinence with a brief but intensive outpatient opiate drug detox in New York.
