About
Our Approach
The Newport Academy philosophy of care recognizes teen behavioral issues, such as substance abuse, eating disorders, and other co-occurring disorders, as symptoms of underlying mental health challenges, most often trauma, depression, and/or anxiety. In order for teens and families to achieve long-term, sustainable healing, treatment must address these root causes through integrated, comprehensive care that involves the entire family in the healing process. Our solutions-driven, outcomes-based approach is founded in compassion, expertise, and unconditional love. We nurture every aspect of a teen’s well-being, addressing their physical, psychological, social, educational, and spiritual needs so they can thrive when they return home and as they take the next steps toward young adulthood. Our mission to empower teens and restore families. To that end, we track a number of different treatment goals and commission rigorous third-party evaluations of our programming. Data on our outcomes shows consistent positive results in measures of well-being, depression, and anxiety, with patients’ improvements, on average, exceeding levels of clinical significance during and after treatment.
Nationally Accredited Academics
At Newport Academy, academic and life skills education is an integral part of the treatment experience. Our licensed and highly trained teachers and tutors work closely with students, parents, and their current school to create a customized academic plan informed by a combination of psychoeducational test results, current transcripts, and state curriculum standards. Clients earn credits and improve their study skills and motivation, sometimes for the first time, while receiving the comprehensive treatment they need to heal. Our strengths-based approach to education recognizes that learning, like every other aspect of a young person’s experience, is inextricably intertwined with their self-esteem, well-being, and sense of empowerment. As teens progress in treatment, we see their academic engagement and motivation improve along with their mental health measures. Our goal is to ensure that our clients are set up for success when they return to their home school, with the tools they need to thrive in the academic environment.
Full Continuum of Care
We provide a full continuum of care at locations around the country, including residential treatment centers; a full suite of outpatient programming, with Partial Hospitalization Programs (PHP), Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP), and outpatient services with a flexible number of days per week; telehealth; and alumni programming. All of our programs have received accreditation from the Joint Commission for Behavioral Healthcare, the nation’s most respected healthcare accreditation body. Our continuing care program provides ongoing support through virtual sessions, and our robust Alumni department keeps former clients connected through online and in-person events and support groups. Whether an adolescent needs a higher level of care, is stepping down from residential care and needs continued structure and community in our Partial Hospitalization Program, or needs several days per week of after-school support through our outpatient services option, our range of programming meets each young person and family where they are.
