SUWS of the Carolinas is an adolescent residential treatment center that has a focus on wilderness therapy interventions. In SUWS’ leading family program, children and adolescents ages 10-17 can participate in programming in a safe residential and outdoor setting while receiving support from their loved ones. SUWS’ family program serves young people who are struggling with mental health, addiction, and educational concerns, along with those who have co-occurring disorders. Our program combines evidence-based treatments, a supportive team of professionals, and the transformative power of our beautiful natural surroundings at Pisgah National Forest to build unique therapeutic partnerships with students and their families. Our family programming can include family assessments, weekly update calls with your child’s therapist, and regular calls with a family coach who can offer support and help you set treatment goals. We also offer a series of parent workshops that are made up of a virtual workshop, a midprogram on-site workshop, and a final pre-graduation workshop — all of which provide a safe space to learn communication skills and engage in your child’s treatment experience.
SUWS of the Carolinas, an adolescent residential dual diagnosis treatment center in Old Fort, North Carolina, offers a personalized, strengths-based clinical program for children and adolescents who are experiencing symptoms of behavioral health conditions. Our wilderness-focused dual diagnosis program, Phoenix Outdoor, supports students ages 14-17 who have substance use and mental health concerns. These concerns might include anxiety, depression, posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), bipolar disorder, and addictions to substances such as marijuana, alcohol, and hallucinogens. Teens in our dual diagnosis program usually stay at our residential treatment center for 60-90 days depending on individual needs. During their stay, they typically engage in daylong group activities and can receive medical care and medication management services from qualified staff members as needed. During a student’s stay, our trained therapists may incorporate evidence-based therapies such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing, and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) into a student’s treatment plan.

Bridging the Gap of America, Inc. believes that counseling is an essential part of drug abuse and addiction treatment. Cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, and other therapy approaches can help people recovering from any addiction. We know that substance abuse and addiction can wreak havoc in one's life. Many of client's find themselves faced with challenges of having to restart their lives after addiction; some may have to fight to regain custody of their children; many of them have co-occurring mental illness that has lead to substance abuse and/or addiction. For some, addiction comes by way of biological, environmental, and social influences, but from my experience, we have learned that mental illness was present before addiction became a factor. People get well at McLeod Center. People. They represent the issue. They stand for the value. They are the only reason for McLeod Center to continue in the effort. They come, frightened, shattered, nearly hopeless, and they get well. For more than four decades, people who have come to McLeod Center have been treated with respect and concern. They have been given the opportunity to get well. Excellent treatment is our priority; however, McLeod Center is distinguished by the belief that cost of treatment should not stand as a major barrier to care. Accordingly, charges are fair and inviting. At McLeod Center, we treat alcohol and drug problems...but our business is people.
