Are you missing nature and animals?

nCHAI offers services which administer a therapeutic medium to support the behavioral wellness of children, adults and families. The facilities provide a nature-based environment on dozens of acres, with fields, groves and ponds, for people to interact with many different domestic animals and various wildlife. The methodologies used begin with basics, to teach each person how to properly interact with animals, how to provide proper care for animals, as well as the environment, which develops real life skills focusing on empathy, trust and nurturing. Being in the nature-centered environment also teaches about conservation and sustainability, farming, work ethic and responsibility. These teachings advocate a natural progression of positive behaviors from people who are in turn taught to apply what they have learned to their own relationships with others, and just as importantly, to themselves as building blocks to self-esteem, self-worth, self-discipline, and self-respect.

How nature and animals help.

Nature plays an important role in the existence of healthy beings. The complexities that develop from a disconnection to nature occur in environments where unnatural elements form a barrier against nature. Whether those barriers are concrete and steel, or video games and smartphones, the separation from nature and the natural world undoubtedly produces a confinement that is detrimental to overall wellness. Being outdoors in the natural world opens many windows of opportunity for learning about the environment, conservation, and sustainability, while walking a guided path of growth. Animals play an important role in the balance of a healthy socio-ecosystem. The complexities that develop when animals are segregated from people, who then have limited or infrequent interactions with animals, grate on the core of the empathetic nerve. Whether this separation from animals is intentional by social construct or by overburdening provisional regulations, the disconnection to animals produces a human state of isolation. The beauty of animals is that they disarm the human ego. Interactions with animals teaches trust, nurturing, responsibility, and most importantly empathy.

Need a hug?

Being at NCHAI will make you feel like you're getting a hug. Whether from the arms of our giant grandfather oaks or the snuggles of a miniature donkey, you will feel the love among nature and the animals, in the spirit of God's intentions.
