Medication-assisted treatment (MAT) is a time-tested, research-supported form of care for adults who have developed opioid use disorder, which is the clinical term for opioid addiction. MAT has been offered in the United States for several decades, and it has proved to be both safe and effective. People who participate in MAT programs receive prescription medication and take part in counseling sessions. The medications that have been approved for use in MAT programs can ease some of the more severe symptoms of opioid withdrawal, which can make it easier for a person to end their opioid use. What to Expect

You can eliminate this obstacle by learning what to expect when you enter a MAT program. We are happy to provide prospective patients with an overview of what it’s like to receive care at our center. On your first day with us, you will fill out some paperwork and complete an intake assessment. The assessment process includes discussing your substance abuse history with a member of our team and being examined by one of our doctors. After your assessment, you may receive a prescription for methadone. When you take methadone as directed by the doctor, you may find it easier to stop using opioids. During your first day, we may also begin to develop your counseling schedule. Adults who receive care at our center participate in individual and group counseling sessions. Individual sessions are confidential conversations with a trained professional. During group sessions, which are also led by a trained professional, you can practice relapse prevention skills and share support with others who are also working to build a foundation for long-term recovery from opioid addiction.
