Southcoast Behavioral Health - Adolescent
Treatment Center
Serves Area
Our expert staff provides care for young people who are struggling with mental health concerns like depression, attention-deficit/ hyperactivity disorder ( ADHD), psychosis, suicidal ideation, and self-harm.
Because children and adolescents go through emotional and physical changes, we believe that developmentally appropriate care can help them achieve optimal results. At Southcoast, we provide age-specific services for youths who have mental health concerns. Each young person who participates in our inpatient programming completes a thorough evaluation that can help us learn about their background, symptoms, and support system. Using this information, we design the patient’s treatment plan. A patient’s treatment plan may include group therapy sessions, medical care, and medication management services, which consists of a daily meeting with a psychiatrist and monitoring by our team of nurses. Members of our multidisciplinary staff lead group therapy sessions, which cover age-appropriate topics such as emotion regulation, family dynamics, and coping strategies. Family meetings are held as needed with the patient’s treatment team to update family members on their loved one’s progress and support needs.

Tranquil Shores Detox
Treatment Center
Serves Area
When you decide to take that brave first step to overcoming your addiction, detox is where you begin. You have to get the drugs out of your system before you can begin the rest of the healing process. Detoxing is actually a natural process — when you stop taking drugs, they will exit your system within a few days. As long as you do not put any drugs back in, you will be cleansed. In the throes of an active addiction, you continue putting your substance of choice into your body and never let it exit entirely. After some time, your body and brain learn to function with a certain level of that particular substance at all times. When you start to feel any withdrawal symptoms, like a headache, anxiety, tremors or anything that makes you uncomfortable, you reach for another dose, and those physical feelings go away. However, doing so adds to the cycle of addiction. The key is to get through those withdrawal feelings without taking another dose of drugs, and addiction makes that nearly impossible to do on your own. That’s why our detox staff at Tranquil Shores is here to help you get through the process safely.

Williamsville Wellness Addiction Treatment
Treatment Center
Serves Area
At Williamsville Wellness, we believe that the key to successful and lasting recovery is through individual attention. Where other addiction treatment centers rely primarily on group therapy sessions, we provide 15+ one-on-one sessions per week with our multidisciplinary staff. Within these frequent individual sessions and supplemental group sessions, our patients are able to address behaviors, contributing factors to addiction, emotional and mental health, family issues, coping mechanisms, and more to gain a comprehensive look into the root and impacts of their addiction. Addiction isn't one-size-fits-all, so the treatment shouldn't be either; with our person-centered approach, each person's treatment plan is catered to what will work best for their situation. As such, we're also especially effective at treating co-occurring disorders or addictions.

ADHD Treatment Centers
When should I seek treatment for ADHD?
You should seek treatment for ADHD if you consistently have difficulty with attention, hyperactivity, or impulsivity that interferes with your daily life. Symptoms of ADHD include the inability to sustain attention during tasks, difficulty organizing tasks and activities, being easily distracted, frequent fidgeting or squirming, and talking or interrupting excessively. If these symptoms interfere with your career, academics, or relationships—for example, consistently failing to complete professional projects on time—you should seek an evaluation for ADHD.

How does treatment for ADHD work?
Effective treatment for ADHD often consists of medication, behavioral therapy, and lifestyle changes. Stimulant medications such as Adderall and Ritalin work by altering levels of neurotransmitters in the brain; higher levels of dopamine and norepinephrine are known to improve attention and focus. Therapy works by helping people with ADHD understand the condition, discuss their areas of difficulty, and develop behavioral strategies to manage their symptoms. In some cases, modifying one’s diet and exercise can also help improve symptoms.

Are there specific medications for ADHD?
Medications to treat ADHD are generally stimulants, the most common are Adderall and Ritalin. There are two categories of stimulants: Amphetamines include Adderall, Dyanavel, Vyvanse, and Dexedrine, and methylphenidates include Ritalin, Concerta, Daytrana, Focalin, Quillichew, Quillivant, and Metadate. Non-stimulants and antidepressants may be used as an alternative if stimulants aren’t effective or viable for a particular patient.

How long does treatment for ADHD take?
It’s tough to give an exact time frame because everyone varies. In terms of medications, stimulants begin to work very soon after you take them, generally within the hour. It may take time to identify the right medication and dosage, but the medication itself is fast-acting. In terms of therapy, it takes time to develop skills and put them into practice, but you will likely see improvements within a few weeks or months.
