Inpatient Treatment
When a teen is in crisis from a mental health concern, it’s crucial to get them help immediately. Inpatient treatment at Longleaf Hospital serves adolescents ages 13-17 who are struggling with severe symptoms of mental health concerns such as depression, anxiety, and bipolar disorder. Hospitalization is most appropriate for young people whose symptoms are so overwhelming that they can no longer function, and they may be at risk for harming themselves or someone else. Because of this, every teen receives round-the-clock care from a multidisciplinary team of experts that ensures their safety and fosters their continued progress. The goal of hospitalization is for a young person to feel stable enough to transition to a lower level of care or back home, which is why inpatient stays are usually short. Most young people remain at our hospital for seven to 10 days, but we evaluate each teen individually before deciding when they should take the next steps in their healing process. By working with the compassionate professionals at Longleaf, young people can set the groundwork for lasting healing. Personalized Treatment Plan
The teens we work with at our hospital come from all walks of life, and each one of them responds to therapy differently. We take the time to learn about how each young person has been affected by mental illness so that we can create a treatment plan that truly reflect their needs. That starts with a comprehensive evaluation of a teen’s medical history, symptoms, and goals for seeking support from us. This process allows us to provide highly personalized care for each young person in every aspect of their treatment. We primarily use group therapy in our inpatient program, and we also customize the topics we discuss in these sessions to each teen’s goals. Sessions might include discussions about anger management, impulse control, and coping skills. Other therapies or services a teen’s care team may recommend during their inpatient stay depending on their unique needs include individual counseling, family therapy, and medication management. We stay in close communication with every adolescent, making any necessary changes to their treatment plan so that they achieve the best outcome possible. Aftercare Planning
At Longleaf, we recognize that hospitalization is often the first step on a teen’s healing journey, but what comes next can play a crucial part in their long-term success. We start planning for a young person’s discharge at admission because we want to make sure that they have everything they need to transition to the next phase of their healing journey. Each adolescent’s discharge planning team consists of a psychiatrist, a social worker, and a discharge planner who work with them and their family to determine whether they will step down to a lower level of care, transition to traditional outpatient therapy, or return home. They also work collaboratively with the teen and their family to identify areas for continued work, as well as any outside resources that may support their progress. When a young person seeks support at our hospital in Alexandria, Louisiana, their healing process doesn’t end when they leave. Our expert team makes sure that every teen has the resources they need to continue their progress long into the future. Take the first step to help.
