Mission Statement
Effective Mental Health Treatment for Teens with Fully-Accredited Academic Support: Located in beautiful Mid-Coast, Maine, Ironwood is a licensed residential mental health treatment center and fully accredited school designed specifically for adolescents, ages 13-17. Our program offers intensive therapy along with customized and accredited academics via three interconnected programs focused on stabilization and assessment, treatment, and transition. Ironwood’s broad program structure and modalities, which include equine therapy, horseback/equestrian, outdoor experiential learning, family involvement, and more, meet the needs of teens requiring treatment for emotional and behavioral issues in conjunction with a safe, therapeutic learning environment.
Integrated Comprehensive Treatment and Academics
Ironwood is also licensed as a Residential Treatment Center. Ironwood operates a private high school. This licensure makes us truly unique and means that Ironwood is held to the highest standards of care and professionalism. Parents and professionals can rest assured their children and clients are receiving the most comprehensive and effective services available today. Intensive therapy is the foundation of Ironwood's impressive success in working with troubled and underachieving teens. At Ironwood, therapy is founded on the basis of relationships - relationships of trust, truthfulness, confidence and humor. When students are willing to engage in a trusted therapist - then learning, change and growth can begin. Therapy takes many forms and is conducted in various locations. A therapy session can take place walking along the path of trees through campus or sitting on a bench next to the pond. Perhaps around a campfire, in the therapist's office or with a variety of animals. Ironwood's licensed therapists have a broad range of experience and expertise. From substance abuse counseling to DBT, to our renowned animal-assisted therapy and most everything in between.
Philosphy
Successfully working with teens requires various approaches that build trust, respect, and confidence. At Ironwood Therapeutic School, our therapists, teachers and staff use the IRONWOOD MODEL OF RELATIONSHIPS. Simply stated, this proprietary model is the bedrock of Ironwood and guides our staff in developing healthy, appropriate and meaningful relationships of trust with students. When students enjoy respectful relationships with staff, learning and growth is both accelerated and enhanced. Coupled with the strong relationships fostered at Ironwood is the breadth and depth of our academic and therapeutic programs. Each program offers a wide variety of activities and courses that are customized to each student's needs and ensures their ability to achieve therapeutic and academic success.
