My role is to create a safe enough environment for you to be your authentic self, first in therapy and then showing up authentically with those around you. Because no person is an island and most interact with others everyday, therapy can help you transition out of social awkwardness and isolation into enriched and fulfilling interpersonal relationships. I have been promoting mental health professionally since 1998. I value ethical conduct, accessible pricing, effective interventions, and practical methods in psychotherapy practice. Please only email or call me but do not go to my website and book an appointment!

Do you ever wake up and question what your purpose is? Do you notice that those outward successes & achievements you strived so hard for no longer bring any joy or fulfillment? Going through the day-to-day routine just feeling on autopilot with all your interactions and activities even when the weekend comes & it is meant to be time for you. Even the strongest shot of expresso can't seem to shake you out of this haze. If you are ready to dig in, & question what you thought you wanted & who you thought you were then you are ready to work together. You are ready to leave others' expectations behind & find yourself.

Sometimes we all may feel anxious or depressed but cannot identify the reasons. Other times we might experience mood swings, or have suffered trauma as children, adolescents, young adults and even abused substances to dull the senses. During these times, a therapist can offer you insight into your situations that you may not see. As a partnership, therapist and patient collaborate on goals the patient wishes to strive for, while the therapists skillfully uses tools, experiential techniques, exercises to help affect the change patients seeks.

For the past 20 years, I have been a successful clinician in the areas of relationships, trauma, anxiety, depression, codependency, family of origin issues, substance abuse and couple challenges. Working on change is difficult and I'm here to help facilitate each client to become their authentic self. I am licensed in two states (California and Colorado) and can meet in person or via teletherapy, depending on where you live. With trauma work, however, meeting in person is the only choice I offer.

Have you ever felt lost and alone? Do you know who you are? Do you like the choices you are making? Are you happy with your relationships? At times, we find the answers to these questions upsetting and want to change, but don’t know how. Or we might be very scared to try. It’s true that the path of healing from misery and hopelessness can be long and hard. The joy and peace that can be found along the way are worth the sweat and tears!

My focus is on working with adults who are transitioning through personal and relationship challenges. They may be learning to cope with painful events (divorce, infidelity, loss of a loved one, or life-limiting medical diagnosis). They may also be struggling with emotional suffering from recurring episodes of anxiety, depression, or trauma. My clients have self-doubt, excessive guilt, challenges accepting personal failures, or difficulty finding personal fulfillment or reaching life goals. They aspire to find comfort in their daily life, reduction in emotional suffering, have greater self-confidence, and have motivation to succeed.

I specialize in working with clients who are experiencing anxiety, depression, impacts of trauma, or life stress. I've worked with clients from a variety of backgrounds and circumstances, and I understand every person has a unique set of challenges-and strengths. Everyone deserves to live a life filled with purpose, connection, and fulfillment. My hope is to work with clients to determine what that life would look like for them and take actionable steps towards achieving that. Through exploring underlying challenges and patterns of coping, our work will address current concerns and find new, more helpful ways to pursue well-being.

My passion is to provide opportunity for growth and healing through multiple avenues. I have a connection to narrative and cognitive behavior therapy which can be applied in a traditional office setting or through equine assisted therapy. I have walked through my own healing from divorce and trauma and found a passion to support others’ finding their path for healing. I support a "team" approach to counseling and if it's appropriate and safe, I prefer to include parents/caregivers in goals and support for their child.

Is life what you thought it would be like, how it was “supposed to” be? Are you doing what you know you are supposed to, what you have been told is expected of you, yet your world is not improving? You still have choices, and you can make change happen. Often, our behaviors that interfere with achieving the life you deserve have protected your well-being or your relationship for many years. Whether it is trauma saturation, professional boundaries, intimacy avoidance, or unwanted addictive behaviors, you no longer have to react alone but can now respond with someone beside you.

It takes courage to admit I need help. Many of us try to get through life's difficulties alone, which sometimes seems to make matters worse. I seek to create a collaborative environment, where the client(s) is the expert on their own life. We work together to create a safe, healthy, space where the presenting issues can be explored and worked through. Whether it is past, unresolved, trauma poking its head into daily living, a recent life change that is overwhelming, or a couple needing to figure out how to feel close and intimate again we will work together to find the best path forward.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in Colorado Springs?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
