Located in Indianapolis, Indiana, Indianapolis Comprehensive Treatment Center (CTC) offers medication-assisted treatment for adults age 18 and older who are struggling with an addiction to opioids. Medication-assisted treatment (MAT) is different from other forms of outpatient care because it combines the use of medication and counseling. The prescription medications used in MAT have shown to decrease the severity of the withdrawal symptoms that often occur when someone stops using opioids. With decreased withdrawal symptoms, patients can focus on the therapeutic component of MAT and are less likely to begin using illicit drugs again. Counseling gives adults the opportunity to process past trauma, address negative emotions, and discuss other mental health concerns that may have contributed to their opioid use. Receiving MAT also lessens their risk for being involved in drug-related violence, getting into financial or legal trouble, and contracting infectious diseases.
