Keystone Treatment Center offers residential treatment for adults who are suffering from substance use disorders, gambling addiction, and co-occurring mental health concerns.
Keystone provides care that helps adults learn skills and strategies that can lead to lasting recovery. We think that residential treatment works best for people who are in need of a supportive and structured atmosphere where they can address their symptoms and begin to understand their diagnosis. One of the most valuable parts of treatment takes place in group therapy sessions, where patients explore topics such as spirituality, the 12-Step process, and personal growth. We also offer experiential therapies, including recreational therapy, ropes courses, and arts and crafts, along with exercise time to promote healing of both the mind and body. Our experts use treatment modalities such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and we feature specialized Christian, Native American, and military-focused treatment tracks for patients who can benefit from those services. No matter the patient, our fundamental approach remains the same: We guide each individual we treat toward a life free of addiction.

Once detox is complete, patients can transition to our adult residential or outpatient programming and keep moving through our continuum of care.
Detoxification helps rid the body of the dangerous substances it has come to rely on. If a person attempts to go through this process without proper medical supervision, it can be dangerous and often painful. At Keystone Treatment Center in Canton, South Dakota, we offer medically supervised detoxification services for adults age 18 and older who are struggling with addictions. Patients who participate in detox at our treatment center spend an average of three to seven days going through this medically monitored process that clears alcohol or other drugs from a person’s system while minimizing withdrawal symptoms. Our staff of physicians and nurses is on hand 24/7 to observe our patients, ensuring a level of comfort and support. We encourage all patients to participate in our evidence-based therapeutic programming while in detox if they’re physically capable of doing so. Depending on a patient’s personalized detox treatment plan and unique needs, they may receive a prescribed medication to help avoid the negative effects of withdrawal.

Our residential treatment program is voluntary, which means they come to YSS because they want to make a change.
We offer residential treatment in cozy, home-like settings. The environment is not institutional; our Ames boys' and girls' programs actually reside in historic homes. Our treatment program in Mason City is located in our newly-renovated, state-of-the-art YSS Francis Lauer campus. In addition, our programs are gender-responsive. Following extensive research that shows keeping adolescents separated by gender during treatment is beneficial, YSS offers the only such treatment in the state of Iowa. While in treatment, youth receive individual, group, and family therapy. Cohorts are kept to similar ages; the average age of a YSS residential client is 15. Youth continue their education while in treatment and, in many cases, are able to catch up on high school credits they previously missed. Outdoor activities, cultural meals, peer mentorships, and daily fitness are just some of the ways we help youth focus on their well-being and feel connected to each other. Our support for youth doesn't end them they graduate from the program; we offer a weekly virtual alumni support group, check-ins from our YSS Recovery Advocate, and scholarships to pursue higher education.
