Center for Teens, Young Adults and Families
Welcome to Hazelden Betty Ford’s nationally recognized addiction and mental health treatment center for teens and young adults (ages 12-25), specializing in comprehensive residential and outpatient care for co-occurring disorders. Substance abuse issues can be complex to diagnose and treat in adolescence/young adulthood, especially when other mental health challenges like depression, anxiety or ADHD are also in the picture. For example, symptoms of depression can become more severe with substance use and, vice versa, substance use issues can intensify as depression worsens. At Hazelden Betty Ford, multidisciplinary care teams—psychiatrists, nurses, mental health therapists, addiction counselors—work in concert to develop each patient’s personalized treatment plan and effectively address all the complexities, all together. Unlike most other teen/young adult dual diagnosis rehab centers, our psychiatrists, medical staff and counselors are on site to provide continuous care and address needs as they arise. And, as a national center for behavioral health, we offer services and support for your whole family’s well-being because we understand that families heal and grow best together. Specialized Rehab for Teens and Young Adults
With residential care, day treatment and intensive outpatient programs (IOP) to choose from, treatment at Hazelden Betty Ford incorporates the field’s leading evidence-based therapeutic approaches, including motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral therapy, CRAFT (community reinforcement and family training), and a wide range of other scientifically verified therapies. Hazelden Betty Ford clinicians have deep expertise in the developmental needs of young people. And we continually review and evolve the care we provide based on patient outcomes, scientific advances and best practices in the field. Our specialized programs and services for teens and young adults include: Comprehensive mental health and behavioral health assessments, evaluation and diagnosis; residential/inpatient (on campus) and outpatient substance use and dual diagnosis treatment; a specific treatment protocol/program for opioid use disorder; and post-treatment counseling, coaching, resources and recommendations. We also offer on-site schooling in coordination with your home school. What Happens in Teen Residential Treatment
Your healing journey at Hazelden Betty Ford begins in our medical unit where our physicians and nurses guide you through detox and provide medications to ease any withdrawal discomfort or drug cravings. Then you will move into your room on a residential wing and begin a daily schedule of activities and appointments individualized to meet your specific recovery needs. Your day will typically include individual counseling, group therapy, educational sessions, special-focus groups (coping skills, resilience, accountability, etc.), mental health appointments, and wellness/recreational activities. Your day could also include on-site schooling. As you progress, your care team will continually assess and adjust your treatment plan to provide the most-effective therapies and support. Please reach out to learn more. Our friendly and resourceful care navigators can answer your questions about addiction recovery, discuss the types of treatment and services available, and explore possible next steps. You can also talk with one of our ambassadors—a volunteer contact person (parent, young adult, family member) who has been where you are and found the care they needed at Hazelden Betty Ford.
